Account of the willow tree farm <*f
Mr. i. Plant, of Macon. It will
Imp tound interesting ami profitabl*-
reading. The willow trees planted
by Mr. Plant are evidently ozi* i
willows, such as are lined in mak
ing basket*, chairs, lnwliis of * hil
dren's carriages, etc. We rcinem
her seeing, when a boy, willow tree
farniK in central Ohio, nnd mider-
stood they were very profitable.
There are many farms in this sec
tion on which a few acres ol willows
could be HiicceHstullv raised, ami
thus many acres made profitable
that now produce nothing.
The writer also speaks of Mr.
Plant raising castor beans. We
have before called attent ion to the
fact that the cast >r bean grows in
groat luxuriance in this section,
and advised our farmei* to plant
them. Wo have seen thousands
of acres planted in castor bean- in
Southern Illinois and Missouri,
where it is raised with profit. al
though always in danger from an
early frost.
In the same connection we would
remark that broom corn can be
made a moat profitable crop in this
section.
