Wilkerson, died of hemorrhagic fever at Dawson on Wednesday. The Daily Recorder is booming in the country as well as in the city, and we shall soon have line lists in every town surrounding Americus. Friday will soon bo the big trade day ol this city, for what reason we do not know. On Fri day twioc the amount of business was done than on Saturday. Our Macon letter will be found especially interesting this morning. “Quiclranil” is developing rapidly as a correspondent, and will soon take his place in the tront ranks. Those who attend the Adamless Eden entertainment, expecting to see and hear something out rageous, will be disappointed, or else the Augusta News is a prevaricator. Uenry Johnson read the big snake story in the Hawkinaville Dispatch last week, and remarked that it reminded him of one that be killed in Webster last summer. U had eighty-nino rattles and a button, and was looked upon as an ordinary snake. We have received the Drat num ber of the Americas daily Record er, dated the ICth inst. It is a very creditable six column paper and we hope it will prove a success and do much lor tbo progressive little city of Americus Carters- viile Free Press. The drat number of the Amkri- cus Daily Recorder is beforo us. It is a 24-column paper, is well freighted with advertisements and choice reading matter. We con gratulate Brother Glessner on the neat appearance of his bantling, and wish lor him the success ho so richly merits Albany Medium. Tke Fisher’s Picnic. Muokalee orcck is now lower than it has been for a number of years, and fishermen are prodting by it. Almost any hour in the day a fino mess of bream and perch can be caught there, and the banks are lined. •■Mil Change. Every year, about this time, our business men'aro troubled on ac count of the scarcity of small change. It is occasioned by the paying off of cotton pickers. In few weeks it will return and the chink of silver will be again heard on our streets. Hebrew Holiday. Saturday the Hebrews of this oity closed their stores to observe the Jewish holiday, their new year. Four storee were closed, Waxel- baum’e, Israel’s, Cohen's, and Fos ter’s. They bad a right royal tins Friday night and Saturday. They observe their holidays with relig- olns regularity. Lost. It is of good quality, and is readily taken "by our numerous buyers sit 9£ cents. Merchants report collections as good as usual at this time of the year. A week or so ago the brick ma sons working on Messrs. Lee & Gridin’s new buildings struck for higher wages, but failed to realize, as the gentlemen sent off and se cured another set of hands, who also, in a few days, struck. But Mr. Leo is always ready for an emergency. He at once stopped bis saw mill near town, put all hands to work on the buildings, and will have them completed in a few days. Strikes arc at a discount in Dawson. Miss Vickie Wilkinson, daugh ter of Mr. Henry Wilkinson, died last Thursday, after a week’s ill ness, and was buried yesterday morning at 9 o'olock. Being a pupil at the Male and Female Col lege, she was buried witb college honors, both schools turning out en masse and joining in the pro cession. Miss Vickie was 13 years of age, and was a great favorite with all who knew her. Since the death of Mr. W. S. Whitchard, as reported last week, bis two little boys, 2 and 4 years old respectively, have both died, and their young widowed mother is quite sick. • Rev. P. S. Twitty organized a choir for the Methodist church about a month ago and drills them once a week at the parsonage. ] attended their meeting Inst Wed nesday night, and was surprised and delighted at the rapid im provement made in so short a time. We have as good musical talent, both vocal and instrumental, as there is in Southwest Georgia. Mr. Twitty is a good organizer and developer of hidden resources, and from present indications I be lieve we will have a choir that would be' a credit to any church. Miss Mattie Whitchard left to day for Marsballviile, where she will probably remain several weeks. J. A. F. Suudap Hour*. My Ice House will he open on Sunday from 10 lo ten. m., end from 4 to 5:30 p. ru. Jake Ibkaki- An Example. Several years ago Matt Hart, the colored fancy grocery man, ran a peanut staud on Harris A James' corner. By economy and hard work he built himself a line resi dence and opened the storo ho now rnns. Ho is one of tbo most relia ble tradesmen ot this city, and any goods he may order will be prompt ly paid for. By close attention to his customer's wants lie has built up a good trade, and Is very pros perous. His cxamplo should be followed by the rest of bis race. To Former Patrons and the Public Generally. Having returned from my visit to Kn- rope, I am now better limn ever pre pared to devote my attention to rauyic scholars. My class will be opened next Monday morning at the rotidence of t>. T.
