A Mistake Corrected.
In Hon. J. N. Hudson’s speech
st the Opera House, Thursday
night, in speaking of Mr. Murray’s
announcement of his candidacy,
he was generally understood by
those present to say that “it ;was
published in the RgcoBDEn.a paper
of insignificant circulation, and ns
a consequence not one in five hun
dred of the people of the district
had an opportunity of rending it.”
Mr. Hudson hearing that such was
the understanding of the audience,
requests us to say for him that he
bad no idea of characterizing the
Reoobdkh as a paper of Insignifi
cant circulation, knowing that it
has as large, if not larger, circula
tion as any paper published in the
district; that he was referring to
the -Montezuma Record, a copy of
which he held in his hand, and if
ho used the word Recorder at all
in that connection it was a slip of
the tongue. He desires to make
this correction as public as bis
speech, so that no one may attrib
ute to him sentiments lie does not
hold.
Senatorial Discuwion.
The discussion, Ttmrsday night,
at the Opera House, between
Hons. J. N. Hudson and W. D.
Mnrray was largely attended, and
both speakers were frequently and
loudly applauded. The gentlemen
in search oi information, who pro
posed to interrogate the speakers
were incontinently Bat down upon
by the audience, who seemed to
think that two speakers tor one
meeting was enough. From the
amount of noise made, the audience
may be set down on as one of the
most enthusiastic that has lieen
held in Americus for a long time.
Not being present, we arc unable
to give a report ol the speeches,
but lYoni the reports given by tbe
respective adherents of both can
didales, we are led to believe that
Messrs. Hudson and Murray each
made scores of converts.
mittce of the Republican party, for
Sumter county, asking tlml he and
two or three others might be per
mitted to.be present at a meeting
held by the Republicans of the
county, and to be allowed to dis
cuss matters pertaining to the in
terest of the voters of the entire
district.
Now this letter and the object
of the parties who Mr. Wooten,
this organized Democrat, wished
to carry with him to this Republi
can meeting was intended only to
bid lor the Republican vote of tbe
county lor Mr. Hudson. What
othur purpose could these organ
ized Democrats have had at a Re
publican mooting in the night time?
It was so understood by all who
knew of it, and was so understood
by the meeting. The Republican
meeting to use a slang phrase,
“Sat down upon it.”
Now does it not seem in ill grace
for these same parties to attempt
to lash unto him voters who have
tho manhood to vote as they think
right, and who will not be ied
about by ring-masters to suit their
purpose? We respectfully submit,
has the day not passed when tbe
intelligent votera of the country
will permit themselves to lie intim
idated by any sucli political clap
trap. We think so, and so believe
the voters of this Senatorial Dis
trict will decide on next Wednes
day.
For the fact herein set forth we
vouch, and dare Mr. Wooten or his
Iriends to deny it, and the letter
will bo produced.
Respectfully,
Murrayitk.
