Our people ore highly elated with the success in building the road thus far, and it is hoped at an early date to press on to Buena Vista. W. D. Murray & Co. are pushing forward the building of a ware house whicli will be completed in the course of ten or fifteen days. The cotton market will open here by the 2d of October. Many of the planters are holding cotton, waiting for shipment over the new road. The new depot is being rapidly built and will in the course of a few days, he ready for the occupancy GEORGIA’S CAPITAL CITV. I 11. H. UantUy Killed on a Orouing*- A Girl's Attempt at Suicide. Atlanta, Ga., Sept. 28—At a late hour last night H. 11. Bentlev was thrown from the railioad crossing at Decatur street, near the city limits, by an incoming freight train of the Air Lino and injured so seriously that he died a few hours after at his home on Cornelia struct. Mr. Bentley when struck was on his way home and happened to be on the crossing when the train rounded the curve at a full rate of speed. The de ceased was a carpenter and leaves a largo family. An inquest was held to-day and a verdict rendered in accordance with the facts in the case. A LOVE LOKN MAID. This afternoon Alice (Hover, a young while girl living in the west ern portion of this city, swallowed some morphine with intent to end her life in that way. When found she was lying on the ground near tlio old mineral springs and was unconscious of what was going on about her. She was taken to her home and medical aid furnished her. To-night she is reported to be in a fair way of recovering. In one of her stockings was found a pistol, with which, she said, she intended killing herself if tlio poi son did not do the work. Friends of tlio family say that the most probable causo of her wishing to die is that a young man who for some time has been paying her marked attention, a few days ago jilted her, and that Ids going back on her made her very unhappy. Y-, September 26— Among the visitora to Governor Cleveland to-day is Mr. Jones, editor of the Jacksonville, FIs. Times. He said if all tlio states were ns sure for Cleveland ns Flor ida is, there would bo no doubt of the result. He further said that there was a large iudcpemlent white republican element iu Flori da, which had settled there from the north, that would heartily support Governor Cleveland. In explanation ot the withdrawal of Elector Long from thu electoral ticket, Mr. Jones said that it was occasioned by an independent speech of Mr. Long regarding the negro queation. “He has been substituted,” he said, “by a demo crat who is very popular with the native born and northern people, the white republican element es pecially. no also has the confi dence of the colored population.” In the course of conversation, the fraud of 1876 was alluded to, when Mr. Jones said; “There polished gentleman. Itlion, N. Y-, September 26 George W. Weaver, publisher of the Itlion Citizen, is to-night printing the first newspaper in thu world the type of which <vas entire ly composed by a type setting machine. The entire edition of 5,000 copies is lining printed by an electric motor, the same ouc which March 11th. printed Weaver’s Journal, being the first in the known world to accomplish the feat.
