The Central Railroad of Georgia has fixed the rale lrom New York to Savannah at $8 steerage passage, and from Savannah to points in the interior at one eent a mile for bona fide immigrant^ The public school tickets pre pared for the negroes Wednesday woro laughable. Both Hudson and Murray men woro supplying them, tud tile public school hud about as much to do with it as it did With tht state election. Wo are sorry to learn of the de struction by lire of Mr. J. R. Boyd’s residence in Leary last Wednesday. Mr. Boyd has rela tives and frionds in Americus who will sympathize with • him in hia loss. , and good humor prevailed. Very few drooken men were seen, and not an arrest was made daring the entire day. The light here was for tho negro vote, and both financial and moral inducements were held out to the dusky freedmau. Money was spent freely nnd without stint, and this morning Snmter county is about $500 better off in the way of get ting the colored voters tax. Chal lenges were frequent, as BilljGuer- ry and Henry Johnson were armed with bundles of old tax ft fas, and woe to the man who tried to vote without having his back rations paid np. About lour o'clock the returns began coming in from the country precincts. They were brought by private parties, and may not be j exactly correct, fbe first to be interest | hoard from was the 17th district, which gave Hudson 4! votes and and Murray 3G. Then u telegram was received from Marshallville giving Murray 85 and Hudson 19 Then the news was brought from Bumpbead, Hudson’s distriet in Schley, giving Hudson 104, and Murray 6. A report reached here that Andersonville had gone 30 lor Murray and 28 for Hudson- Old 20th, Hudson 107, Murray 28, New 20th, Hudson 40, Murray 30. At seven o'clock wc received the following from our Montezu ma correspondent: “Murray’s vote at thfs place is 223, Hudson 24. Marsballvillo- Murray 85, Hudson not stated. Murray ahead at Oglethorpe. The county will give Murray 600 ms- jorily. S*. H. D." At 8:55 the vote of thi3 city hail been counted, with tile following resu it: The boring of this well has demonstrated that an 'artesian stream flows under A met ions, for at a depth between 600 and 700 foet a stream was struck whicli rose in the casing to within thirty feet of the surface. Had the well been sunk on the level with the railroad ttaak, it would have risen to the surface. From the depth at which the stream was found it would seem to be the same stream which supplies the wells at Albany and Montezuma. Mr. Brush thinks that if a stream is not found that will force its way to llu surface, Americus can secure a fine stream by boring at some lower point, the water from which could be forced up to the elevation of the square by means of a hydraulic press. We are not sufficiently versant with the contract between the City Council and Mr. Brush to oiler any opinion, but we hope matters will either be carried on in the present location or boriug be commenced at some other point.
