Americus Recorder. tor. l. auwn, mmf. OfeeUI Oman of Webstf Qjootf. SUNDAY. OCTOBER. 91 Wfc b A few weeks non and the po litical agony will be over. governor Cleveland last week vUltrd Buflslo, and received the grandest ovation ever otTered a presidential candidate. It seem* strange that the pro duce speculators could ran up the pripe of corn “on Change” in Chletgo, Tuesday, to #1 per bosh- el, when every regular grain deal- er in the town was selling at 662 canto. The Brooklyn Eagle gives a com potation made up at the headquar ters ol the independent republi cans by which the vote of that party is estimated at 46,000 for If am. York state. The Herald thinka the estimate much too low. The city or town that. prospers these days has to make earnest ettorts to achieve euccess. Noth ing but energy and enterprise will avail. The days of trade and wealth begging business men to take them in out of tbc weather ure gone forever. Bill Jobes, the young man who •hot' at 'QirKean in the streets while he jbbib*ing carried from court to prison, was converted at Bladens- burg, Md„ tue other day at a big meeting. He lias never been so lortnnate as to have a good offer trap) a dime museum. The eurioue statement is made that not only baa the long drought in Maryland done great damage to crops of corn, tobacco, etc., throughout the State, but that is h*a actually bad a very injurious elect upon tbe oyster crop. It is said that tho rivers Sowing Into tbe Chesapeake Bay are so low that there baa not been sufficient Iresb water mingled with the salt water to properly develop and fatten the Mvalves. So far there lias been no complaint of tbe dronght (fleeting llsli nr the Pro hibitionists. The pioet notable of recent ac- ces'alon's to tbe republican revolt against Blaine in Wisconsin is that of the lion. William Young, of Milwaukee, said to be the largest merchant and wheat operator in ibe world, lie was a supporter of the republican candi date until tbe -phbflCatlon of tbe second installment of tbe Mulligan letters, when he promptly bolted. Judge C. M. :of "Vernon county, in tblBBiisaMtey republi can candidate for congress in 1882, has also declared fur Cleveland. Tbe Independent movement is making favorable progress through- outtfl'tfte. ! CU^imRANK* During tho war tbe soldiers in their cyyps sealed their little family differences by a square and friendly ael-to, and when tbe quar rel VC* over t|ey (Root hands end fell into "the ranks, each one ready to tight the common enemy. We have had a little family quarrel In ib!s r senatorial district between Deatoerats. it Is now ended, and while the result does not satisfy those who were defealrd, as it never does, we are confident that lioth sidrs will shake hands, fall into ranks, and be ready to give haute to the common ensmy in No crater. The light then will not be • family quarrel. It will be a ualional one, involving issues of importance, and it behooves the Democracy to close up its ranks, | fall Into line, make a grand and dtcMvt chargt and reap the re wards of victory. While there Is no dangtr to tbe eteotorni ticket of the State, there ia necessity for vigilance in the congressional districts. In this district there la a Republican can didate in tbe Held, aud he hopes through Democratic confidence and apatby to tee ore election. The Democrats of this district should make it evident by their votes that they are ever allvv to their Inter ests and do not propose that the advantages they have to hardly w»u shall be lost by nrgllgtnee. ■’srr A SHALL VOTE PULLED. Tbe Democratic vote cast In tills 8tate Wednesday will hardly reach 80,000, and it is doubtful it tbe qptire vot<^ Democratic and repub lican, will be much more than 100,000. In a few counties a pret ty full vote was polled, owing to tbe local contests. Generally, however, there was a great show of indifference. The people seem ed to thing that as there was no opposition to tbe Democratic State ticket, there was no occasion to take tbe trouble to vote. In 1882 the vole wasn't large, but It was considerable larger than it was this year. For Stephens 107,260 voles were cast, and for Gsrtrell 44,896, making a total vote of over 160,600. It requires an exciting contest to bring out a big vote in Georgia. A Bibb county farmer sent iu two large wagon loads of roasting- ears yesterday, and sold them at 20 cents per doxen. As it takes 100 ears to the bushel, for wbicb he would receive 76 cents, he sells tbe 100 roasting-enrs for $1,66}. In this way a corn crop is made to pay.—Macon Telegraph. And yet tbe Telegraph says truck-farming don’t pay. Ike Pennsjlvauls Uretabaekers, BeUEFoim:, Pa., Oct. I.—The result of the evening session of the Greenback Convention was tbe adoption ol a resolution to fuse with tbc Democrats, with the un derstanding that no fusion or com bination be made for a less number than half of the electors. Eight gentlemen were appointed ns a committee to carry out the pur pose of the resolution. A CARD.
