About September first we shall move into our new store, at the old stand, Barlow Block, Public Square, where we shall open the most elegant assortment of goods in our line ever brought to Southwest Georgia. At our pres ent store on Cotton Avenue, we have a large stock of Watches, Clocks and Jewelry, Solid Silver and Plated Ware, Pianos, Organs and Sewing Machines, and everything else usually kept in a Jewelry and Music Store, that must be reduced to save moving and make room for new goods. Therefore, for the next Twenty Days, or until we move, will sell any thing we have in stock at prices lower than have ever been reached before inOIR C-A-SEH I Come and examine our stock, get our prices, and we will guarantee that you will be convinced that we mean what we say Remember we have great bargains to offer for CASH and the time in which to secure them is limited. Come one, come all, and don’t fail to come early. JAS. FRICKER & BRO. Americus, Ga., Aug. 13, 1884. SileneeBroken. ‘‘Where ignorance is bliss it’s folly to be wise.” But why live in ignorance nnd throw your hard earned money away, when you can save from ten to fifty per cent, by buying your Dry Goods, Clothing, Shoes, Hats or Notions at the Bargain Store, where you can find as fine an assortment, more of a variety, than in any store here. The goods offered and sold so remarkably cheap are in every respect new, fresh and The reason why the Bar gain Store can afford and sells such Bargains, is, 1st, They buy in large quan tities. 2d, They have a resident buyer in New York always on the lookout for Bargains. 3d, They sell for the cash only and make no bad debts, hence they need not charge their losses to their cash cus tomers. 4th, “Last, but not least,” They believe in quick sales and small profits, which in itself is sufficient to command your patronage. Now don’t give this a pass ing notice, call around, and re member that fresh goods and bargains are arriving daily, and you are sure to find something that will suit you and your pocket. Respectfully, S. M. COHEN. The Bargain Store oppo site Bank of Americus. Don’t overlook the mammoth red sign and flag. 2GCth* EDITION. PRICE ONLY $1, KNOW THYSELF. Krrur,.r—Tltn.ly Topic. Dawson, Ga., Oat. 7—At meetioj! of tbe city council last Bight the subject of tbe artesian well was discussed at some length and with some warmth. Mr. Jack, son made a statement, in whloh he said he might or might not obtain water where be wus now working, but thought it would be as well or better to''ruboutaod begin again” in another place; whereupon the council decided' that tbe whole thing was an egregious failure, and abandoned the project, at least for tbo present, “and it may be for years, and it may bo forover.” Mr. Jackson and his staff were dis charged, the engine ordered to be restored to its proper owner; and whether the derrick, ete., shall be removed and ail signs of tbe enor* mons mistake be erased and for ever obliterated from tbe face of tbe eartb, or whether it shall stand as a monument to the greatness of our present Mayor and city coun oil, will be determined at the next meeting, a month hence. In the meantimo the clerk is ordered to assess a tax of one per cent, on all property inside the city limit, and proceel at once to collect the same and place it in the hands of the Treasurer, who will proceod to pay the expenses of this huge project, and other indebtedness ofthe city. The counoil also passed an order to open College Avenue to tbe in corporate limit, and there Intersect with tbe new road opened by the county, passing near tbe residence of Capt. J. W. Itoberts, and into the Dawson and Brooksvltle road. This will bo of considerable con venience, and saving time and dis tance to those going in, and going from, that direction, and especially to those going to the depot, tbe Baptist church or either of the schools from that portion of the eounty. This project was first ag itated and recommendod in the Recukdeb by your former Dawson correspondent, “ W. K. P,’’ and to him we are mostly indebted for its final consumation. Speight Baldwin is the “funny man” of the connoil. A man must have a “stiff upper-lip” indeed to be dignified five minutes in bis presence. Mr. John S.
