Albany seems to get ber full sup ply of ice from Americus now, judging from the amount Jake Israel ships there. When the first rumble ol distant thunder was beard in the city, tbe warehousemen at Toole, McGarrab & Tondee’s indnlged in a regular green corn dance. “In three years you will sec Americus have another railroad outlet, and then tbe boom we have now will not be a straw,” said an Americus man yesterday. There is a young man on Lamar street wbo is anxious to buy some “nigs.” If be will insert an ad in tbe Recorder, our friends from tbe country will probably supply him. Mrs. A. C. Bell returned from Indian Springs Thursday night, after a few weeks sojourn. Tbe trip proved very beneficial to her health, which has been poor for some time past. Tho thermometer at Toole, Mc- Qarrnh & Tondee’s warehouse registered nt noon yesterday 88, and Thursday 94, the difference being probably due to the ap proaching rainstorm. Cspt. Bell nays there is one thing about tlie artesian analysis that is peculiar. There is no iron men tioned in tlie analysis, and he knows very well there is over tbreo hundred feet of it in the well. The Constitution says that dogs lose the power of barking in Suri nam. Then let’s all move to Suri nam, for those canines on Hamp ton street certainly yield enough bark each night to tan not only tbeir own, hut tho hides of every living thing in Americus. The painters who are at work on the Hawkins building, Corner of Forsyth street aud Cotton Avenue arc prepared for a wonderful game of ace-saw. Should the man on the inside stop off, the chances are that the outside man would “sec” more stars than he ever “saw” before. THE "LANGTRY" HOOF 8KIBT WITH BUSTLE COMBINATION. The lightest, moat comfortable and datable Battle In the world—76a to When ho returned to his seat in the theatro and said he had just stepped ont to see some one, she gravely responded: “It must have been the Kvil One;” and when tbe young man asked if she saw the cloven foot, she turned up her pretty noso and said: "No, but I smell the cloven breath.” We arc pleased to learn that Mr. T. J. Stapleton was not dangerous, ly injured in Thursday’s runaway. His collar bone was broken, and the right sido of his face was pretty badly bruised and scratched. Tho injuries, for a man of bis ago (he being nearly 70 years old,) though severe, were not so serious but that he was ablo to ride home Friday evening. Yesterday afternoon Mr. W. F. Jowcrs, the Webster county cotton king, sent in a 6-mule team loaded with 8 bales of cotton, aggregating 3,890 pounds, and a double team with two bales weighing 324 each, making a grand total of 4,814 pounds, all the bales being neatly done up. This was tbe biggest load brought into town during tho past week. The intensely hot, dry and very unseasonsble weather now prevail ing is favorable to disease. Too much vigilance cannot be used in keeping the health of the city good. Ooe life is worth moro than all the income of the city. Ooe epidemic would injure our educational and general interests terribly and al most beyond repair. Wherever an evil smell lurks there is danger to health and life, and danger that may develop into disastrous reali ty at any moment. Let the Board of health, the police, the city bauds and every citizen observe, closely, and wherever the atmosphere is offensive report it ami see that the evil is corccted. A taint in the air Joit now is more dangerous THE ARTESIAN ANALYSIS. Borne time ago Captain A. C. Bell sent to Professor White, state chemist, a sealed iug ef water from the artesian well on the southeast corner of the square, for analysis, and this week be received the fol lowing from tbe Professor: «rain* p-r V. (*. Ofi. This water has the general com position of Artesian waters of considerable depth, with tbe addi tion of an unusually large quantity of sulpherreted hydrogen gas in solution. Tire quantity of mineral matter held in solution is not large, but it is sufficient to impart mild medicinal qualities to tbe water. The sulpherreted hydrogen is also a valuable medicinal agent. I should class this water as an alkaline sulphur water. It proba bly would act medicinally as an aperient aud alterative. Respectfully, II. C. White, State Chemist. Colle.lor and Solicitor, Mr. M. M. Folsom ia tbo duly author ized Collector and Snlicitor for the Bn- coudf.1i, and all bis business transactions in connection therewith will be duly recognized and accepted by the proprie tor- Dooly Farming. Late Thursday afternoon a four- mule team drove up to Harrold & Johnson’s warehouse and discharg ed a load of cotton which was brought all the way from tbe Gus Morgan farm in Dooly. Messrs. Gus and William H. Morgan run the former Beale plantation, and make splendid orops of cotton, corn, etc. The driver informed a Recorder man that his present load made twenty bales delivered in two weeks, and that he had not got good under way yet. In a h .s ket he brought a sample of “ole po’ lan’ nubbins” to feed on. The re porter asked Mm had he made plenty of such. “Humph ! Yer orter see our bottom Inn’ corn Yes, snh, we has made plenty an’ ter spare.” One excellent feature ot the Morgan management is the way their cotton is baled. There aro no ugly, ragged ends to invite tlie town cows to sample. They are done up ns neatly as an express packago. Mr. Adams informs us that they bale tbeir shucks in the same manner and send them to the warehouse to be marketed. This should be a pointer to other far mers. Our New Solicitor. iMi. M. M.
