We are now fitting up a first-class Bar ber Shop in the room adjoining the poet office. Our shop under Wheatley's will be in charge of an experienced barber from Macon. In onr new quarters we will be better than ever prepared to ac commodate onr numerous end gentle manly customers with prompt and skill- f«l work. We both terved long appren- ticeahipe before opening out on onr own own line, and are therefore folly potted on the requirements of the trade, and never use dull razors on a heavy beard. Whan yon want any work done, call on US and w* will aurve yon promptly. Axokmon * lusvonn, Mr. Will Harrison,an old Ameri ous boy, but now traveling for Savannah cotton and guano bouse was in town yesterday. Will always gets good orders from Americus Jno. Cook raised a fine six pound trout out of the JIuckalee one day last week, tho largest, we believe ever caught there. Mr.'W. K. Bell bought it for ten cents a pound. Joe Roney took his first possum hunt Friday night, and caught coon and two fine possum3. The glories of a possum hunt can never be described—they must be expert enced. Mr. G. M. Hay has received two fino billiard tables, which are now ready for use. They are of the Brunswick, Balke & Collender make, with the famous Monarch cushions. If you are duo the paper any thing, pay it up like a little man, Then you give even the devil chance to get his due, and our own special Satan is a peculiarly ap preciative individual in that re spect. Mr. M. M. Folsom, who has been writing us a scries of interesting articles from Moultrie, has accept ed a position on the stall of the Amerieus Recorder. Wo congratu late Mr. Folsom and our contempo rary also Tbomasvllle Times. Mrs. Elam has received her new goods and will open them this week. They are tho finest ever brought to this market and will ho sold cheap for cash. Parties wish ing now goods will please settle their old accounts before opening new ones. A farmer named Smoot brought two hales of cotton to town last week which were raised by himself and wife. It was very fine, and brought Docents per pound. Mr. Smoot raises his own meat and corn, and is one of the happy and contented farmers ol the county Tiie other day a Recorder man noticed a regular army o( dogs in the yard of a colored individual in the suburbs. Striking a fancy to little slump-tailed cur, with a forked nose, lie asked the little darkey for it. “Got narry un to spar, boss. We’se only got Ring- wood, Rockwood, Jostler, and Towse, Ole Jip an’ her seben pups, an’ dia dog named Slump what Tink gill us. He's de bes’ coon dog you eber see.” Sweet potatoes arc ottered for sale in Americus at 90 cents per bushel, while 50 miles south of here, in the wi regrass, they go begging at 40. The question for our farmer friends to decide is, would it pay or not to ship them here and pay from 15 to 25 cents per bushel freight, and sell them for 70 or 76 cents wholesale; could they be guaranteed sure sals. The venture would doubtless prove profitable. Why should not pota- toai, peas, etc., be shipped and sold tbs same ss cotton, snywsyl - Tiie Man vs. tbe Land. When around at tbe Georgia Warehouse, yesterday morning, onr attention was attracted to one of tbe finest team of mules we ever saw. It was drawing up a load of cotton, and tbe shape of tbe bales, the wagon, the harness, and ever®, thing about tbe turnout was of first quality. Upon inquiry we learned It belonged to Col. Georgo W. Council, who was raised within three miles of the city, and when a boy drove a horse cart to town, and who started after the war with out a dollar. He is now one of the largest and most successful farmers in the county and sends to market the finest team of mules in Georgia. He has over two hundred hales of cotton already in market, ninety of which arc from a ten-mule farm. They average over five hundred pounds. Mr. Council is an unas suming man, and we mention the fact to show what can be done on Georgia soil by pluck, energy and attention to business. RELIGIOUS. People frequently express a wish to be able to distinguish stars from planets. Whoever will improve this opportunity to study tbe difference in the appearance of Regulus and that of its neighbors will pro bably have no difficulty hereafter recognizing at least the brighter members of the planetary brotherhood. Tbe steady, unlltck ering light of Jupiter and Venus contrasts strikingly with the cease less scintillations of the star, which although itself a star, and in all probability much larger than our sun, is so far away in tbe deeps of space that it is quite thrown into the shade by their surpassing lustre. Pclui Tall, and People Tell lUc Price*. You know, and we know, that a con tented customer is the best advertisement we can have. But oftentimes low-prioed goods mean inferior and trashy materials and make up, hence our endeavor has been to connect these two strangers, low prices and good goods, and we are confi dent thnt onr customers will be as well pleased as ws are at oar success, octiatf J. It. Shaw. That Fever. The Smltbville Enterprise 1ms been raising a fuss tho last two weeks about our mentioning that young Eb. Westbrook died of “the Lee county yellow fever." The Enterprise may, and seems to have, good grounds for claiming that Eb. did uot have that fever. As far as the Recorder is concerned, it re ported just what was said to it when Westbrook’s death was in quired into. Whether any One has the right to call the disease Lee county yellow fever is another mat ter, and one that does not con cern us. Does Farming Pny! Yes, sir ! That is, if yon can run yonr farm on the cash system, buy no pro visions at ail; but if you run short, buy them for the cash only. Jnst so with the Bargain iStore. It will pay yon to buy your Dry Goods, Clothing, Boots, Shoes, Hats, and, iu fact, everything from them for the cash, because they sell for the cash and at "cash prices” only, the mean ing of which, and advantage thereof, ev erybody that baa ever tackled the credit system knows. Ought People to Patronise and goto See the Circus! Yes, why not? It is fun for the young and old, and does you lots of good. Just with patronizing The Bargain Store. try to come in at the twelfth hour and make a sickly attempt to divert the grand rush by illusive adver tisements of auction goods from broken concerns. But the people wont hear any such nonsense. They don’t stop long enough to even take a passing glance at these old, worn-out advertisements, as they are perfectly posted that auction clothing, etc , means generally bun dles of mixed-up sizes and obsolete remnants that none who wish to appear even respectable will wear.
