The demand lor sugar cane in
this city is surprising. A wagon
load is no sooner in town than it
is emptied and disposed of. A
gentleman who has live acres in
cane near this city sells all of it,
and claims he makes more money
out of it than lie does on his
plantation.

A Valuable Book of Reference.
We have received from Latham,
Alexander & Co., the great cotton
commission merchants of New
York, a copy of their valuable an
nual, giving the movement nr.d
fluctuations of cotton from 187‘J to
1884. It is a handsome work and
as valuable us it is handsome, be-1
ing invaluable as a work of refer
ence to every cotton buyer. This
number contains n most admirable
article on “The Quantity of Cotton
Produced in the World and Where
it is Consumed” by Titos. Ellison,
of Livcr|iool, the most eminent
writer in the world on matters
relating to the supply nnd con
sumption of cotton. This book 61
cotton statistics is not published
lor sale, but is furnished free of
cost to cotton factors.
Now,
While the ciittun is rolling in, is a good

Our ElInTille Friends.
About a week ago Ellaville
opened ber cotton market, and a
couple of prominent business men
began buying the cotton which
came in. Several shipments were
made, when the market dropped.
The buyers could get no returns
from their shipments, and stopped
buying.- As the inattar now
stands, farmers are carrying their
colion away Irom Ellaville, and |
that city is losiug some trade. We [
hope our friends over there will 1
get out of their predicament, and j
establish a market that will not i
down.
