Bagley was the happy father of a baby girl, yesterday morning. All are doing well. “A Bunch of Keys” appears to grow more laughable at each pre dentation, and the mirth of the Arch is loud and prolonged. Even the stoic could not withstand the contagious humor of this very amusing play.-Philadeipliia Chron icle- Herald. Yesterday afternoon little -Kobt. J. Holloway, 9 years of age. brought in bile of cotton and de livered it at Felder’s warehouse, tailing a receipt in his own name His father informed us that tbe cotton was cultivated and harvest ed by the iad, and that he had re ceived no assistacce. Our item about a bale of cotton being on lire in Council <Sc Willi ford’s warehouse, a few days ago, probably did Baldwin’s & Daven port injustice, although it was not so intended. Mr. Davenport said the bale was ginned, picked and thrown on their yard at 4 p. in. Wednesday afternoon, and lay ulicre until Thursday morning at 8 without showing any signs of Ore. Tbe bale was discovered on lire ebont (our o’clock iu the ware house. The reader can draw his own conclusions. Death of Or. J. H. Bnrnuin. Dr. J. K. Barmitu, one of Stew art county's most prominent citi zens died on Wednesday and was buried in Lumpkin on Thursday. Ho was a man respected by nil who knew him and his death is much regretted. Watts, of the Mechanics Fire Company, received yesterday, from Summers A Mur phy, of B&rnesville, the following dispatch, from which it will be seen that the reel ordered from them by tbe Mechanics is all right: Barnesville, Ga., Oct. 18. Cotton Uin Uurned. •The cotton gin of Mr. William Uaiey, about six miles from this city, ou tho F.iendship road, was discovered to be on fire Friday night, about eight o'clock. The fire was seen in tho city, and the fire alarm sounded. The fire caught in the lint room; anil in spite of all efforts the house aud gin and six bales of cotton wero consumed. A, Davis, secretary, Eufauia, Ala, j .Supposed Attempted Chtireb Hunting At tl o'clock, Friday night, fire was discovered in the woods near Rocky Mount church, ou the A. P. A L. It. R., five miles from the city. Tho young man who dis covered it, gave the alarm and the united efforts of himself and three others saved the church. The fire was in twenty or thirty feet of the church, and an old brush arbor standing near, was at the point of being ignited. Had it caught no efforts could have saved the church. The supposition is that the attempt was made to set the chinch on fire, Wedding-Bells. The news that Miss “Tookie” Lamar was merried last Tburday reached here Friday. From tbe Rome Courier we get the following particulars: Married at the residence of the bride's brother, Mr. O. V. Lamar, on Oostanaula street yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, bv Rev. J W. Lee, Mr. Frank Etheridge, of Jackson, Ga., to Miss Imogens Limar, of Americus, Ga. No cards. The ceremony took place in the parlor of Mr. Lamar’s residence on Oostanaula street in the presence of tbe following friends and acquaintances of the lamily: Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Cutts, Mrs. J. \V. Lee, Mr. and Mrs. \V. H. Adkins, Misses Mary and Mattie West, Miss Julia Jackson, of Macon, Mr. Huddleston, of Jackson, Mr. K. J. Ragan, Mr. O. Y. Lamar’s family and the Courier representative. The short and impressive marriage rites of the Methodist church were conducted by Rt-v. J. W. Lee. After everybody had offered their congratulations and best wishes tbe company was ushered into the dining room where tbe estimable hostess, Mrs. Lamar, had spread lor telim a regular banquet. This was by uo means an unimportant part of tbe programme and the party lingered quite a while around the table. Returning to the parlor, the good byes were said, and the bridal party took their departure (or East Rome and left on the 11:30 o'clock train for Jackson. The bride and groom were accom panied by Mr. UuddleBton and Miss Julia Johnson. A number of friends accompanied the parly to the depot. The fair young bride was one of the reigning belles of Americus, her home, where she is beloved and esteemed by ail who know her. The gallant young groom, Mr. Frank Ethridge, is a polished gen tleman and h most successful busi ness man. The marriage is a union of true love begotten of true worth ou both sid es. The Courier, figuratively casting tbe traditional slipper after the hnppy couple, joins in the many wishes for their futuie happiness and prosperity.
