The A. 1\ A L. road is pushing bravely forward. We learn that the piling for the Muckalee trestle has been driven and the erection of the trestle will begin in a day or two. The grading force are about eighteen miles west of here, though there are some small sec tions within that distance that arc not yet graded. We noticed several large loads of One native hay on the streets yesterday. The hay may not bring so much cash per load aB cotton, but under the present management the hay men will generally carry away more hard cash in proportion to the amount invested than the cotton men. It is a bad state of affairs when a man eats up his cot ton by the time the crop is laid by and then gathers and markets it for nothing and hoards himself. Price* Tell, nutl People Tell Price*. YoU know, and we know, that a < tented customer is the best advertisement we can have. But oftentimes low-priced goods mean inferior and trafthy materials and make up, hence our endeavor has been to connect these two strangers, low priceft and good goods, and we are confi dent that onr customers will be a* well pleased ns we are nt our success. octI2lf J. It. Shaw. The Opera House was filled in spite of the bad weather. ‘ A Bunch of Keys” is an extravaganza of the liveliest desciiption and brimfull of a kind of fun that will keep the larger portion of the audi ence in a constant uproar. Miss Flora Moore, the largest key in the bunch, is the most lively, reckless and versatile of the harum-scarum school that has appeared here in a long time. Shu possesses a lovely voice and sings like an Irish thrush, witli a taste of the brogue once in a while. It is beyond us to de scribe this story of a model hotel. It will be better to take a room there to-uiglit and laugh—for laugh you must—during the three acts crowded with lively action, music and dancing.—Terre-Haute Express. COMING. That its title “The Now Monster Shows” may he no misno mer, Manager l'oris lias gathered the largest and most interesting collection of animals from all parts of the globe, a museum attraction of world wide celebrity, and has formed a circus corps of artists famous both here ami abroad. The people will have an opportunity of seeing the New Monster Shows at Americus, Monday, Oct. ST. The greatest attraction with the show is the White Spotted Sacred Kir- pliant, “Tbeodurus," the troupe of Brawny Turks, the Selbini French Bicycle ltiders, The Siberian Holl er Skaters, Turkish Rnite Throw ers, Prof. Moore's Troupe of Kdti ckled Dogs, a troupe ol ltoyal Capital. ‘•Howdy, General," said a Recob- deb man, yesterday, as he shook hands with the honest old veteran. “All right; how are you?” was the response. “All right. How are you com missioners getting along with the ‘oolitic?’ ” “It would be impossible to make better progress.” “How about that technical point in the bill which requires you !o have marble?” “That point has been raised by a son of an owner of one of the Geor gia marble quarries, and is all meant for effect. The fact is, the commissioners had no other choice than to choose ‘oolitic.’ There was but one bid with Georgia marble ill it, mid that run the cost of the cupitol $150,000 above the appro priation, so it was out ot the ques tion for us to consider it. We have submitted the ‘oolitic’ to very severe tests in tho hands of the Slate Cheinisl.and in no respect has it been found wanting. Two weeks ago last Thursday I left here and went to Toledo, Ohio, in com pany with another commissioner, to see about the bond ot the con tractors. They were only required to give a bond of about $178,000, anil they have given one for twice that amount. Wc went to the ooil tic quarries and examined tl.eir method of taking out the stone. They do not blast it, like other marble, hut by a channel process take it out in blocks o( any size. Many public buildings are using it. The Indiana state house is being built out o( it at a cost of $2,000,- 000. The marble is soft-when first taken out, hilt hardens by expos ure. “What are. the opponents of the ‘oolitic’ going to do about it? “They arc organizing a strong and unscrupulous lobby in Atlanta to appeal to the legislature to in crease the appropriation, and have the capitol built out of Georgia marble. I was asked the other day by Oapt. Harry Jackson why we did not give the contract to parties who would Imild it out of Georgia marble. Wc were stand ing by one of his line buildings, which was built out of Maine and Vermont marble. I ashed him why lie did not use Georgia instead of Maine and Vermont inarhie in erecting bis buildings. He said it was too high. I then answered that we were trying to serve the State as wc would serve ourselves, lie had nothing more to say.” “And how ia the work progress ing?” “Finely. Wcnre pushing every thing us fast as possible.” Eider Down” uiut “Calls Lit," are elegant complexion poirdirs nn.l are used ill ninuy places with perfect satis faction. From the number of reserved scats already sold, it appears that the “Bunch of Keys” will have a larger house than Katie I’utnam. The play is not one of a deep plot, hut a rollicking piece of humor, full of humorous and lively situa tions, aud well calculated to amuse and entertain an audience. If you want n good seat, go early this morning and secure it. iMizpali. Our readers will have noticed that tho play in which l’atli Rosa appears at the Opera House next Tuesday night is chrixtencd "Miz- pah,” and may he in doubt as to the meaning. Harper's Nelson County Whiskey is preferred abovo all other Brands is because it is the most regular and most perfect Product, incontestably ever mode. A long experience in tho manufacture of the Hirpcr, the large capital of the Distiller which enables him to hold his Whiskey until it is fully ma tured, together with- tho fact that the Whiskey is bought by and shipped me to direct from the Distillery accounts for tho unvarying satisfaction it has given those best educated to a fine Whiskey.
