CURSENCOME HOME TO ROOST.
During the days of rcconslrtie-
tion there were several laws passed
by Congress which were especially
framed to fit the South in their Du
plication, although general in their
nature. Prominent nraong these
law. were those transferring all
litigation between parties residing
in different States to the Federal
courts, and the appointment of
supervisors and deputies of elec
tions where members of Congress
were to be elected. It was not
many years belore the first ot these
laws returned to plague the invent
ors, as foreign railroad, insurance
and loan corporations took advan
tage of it to make trouble lor those
individuals who sued them, and we
have heard scores of Republicans
curse the day when the law was
passed, and it inflicted a thousand
times more trouble upon the people
of the Nosth than it ever did upon
the people of the South. 1 he sec
ond of these laws, like chickens
and curses, is now coming home to
roost, and the people of the North
arc finding the expression of the
popular voice at the polls thwarted
and perverted by swarms of super
visors and their hired deputies,
whoso chief duty seems to be to
prevent a fair election. It is but
the following out of the law of nature
—no part of the body can lie in
jured without being felt in time by
all the other parts.
A Birmingham gentleman, com
ing down on the train from Cin
cinnati, says the Birmingham
Chronicle of the 20th, heard a ne
gro United 8tates deputy marshal
boast that he had voted six limes
in the Ohio election, and that he
was going down to Louisiana to
repeat the same game. The negro
in his huasting insulted a while
man, and they fought on the car
The man knocked the negro down
five times, although he drew bis
pistol. It is by such methods as
this nesno spoke of that the Re
publicans will carry the election.
The Allania correspondent of
I he Macon Telegraph writes that a
great law suit is likely to grow cut
of the Barnesville fire, as it is said
that the sufferers will bring suit
against the Central Railroad Com
pany, claiming that the Ore was
started hy sparks from an engine
on that road.

It has been asccrlninctl that over
five thousand fraudulent votes
were cast in Cincinnati and Hamil
ton county together. The majority
of these were cast by negro repeat
ers. This statement simply reiter
ates tho belief generally held
throughout the couiitry that enor
mous frauds were practiced by the
Republican tricksters who have
charge of Blaine's fortunes in this
campaign. The whole thing shows,
if further proof were necessary,
that Blaine's fprtune is the coun
try’s misfortune.
Sunday telegrams give the in
formation that a Northern cashier
dropped dead. This is important
as being flic only instance on rec
ord in which a Northern cashier
ever dropped anything—Tele
graph and Messenger.
No; there ure some other things
that they have been known to drop;
for instance, the acquaintance ol
the bank creditors.

Specially was this true of many large and celebrated Clothing
manufacturers who had made up numerous stocks from materi
als bought on credit. These manufacturers placed their faith
on lively and profitable September trade, absolutely relying on
it for funds to meet their maturing paper, which they had given ‘“cjuiTree'inrT.-n.rvnt r,

warm weather and no customers cooked their “goose,” and there
was nothing left for them to do but to fail and turn their goods
over to an Assignee. It was bad for them, but it is in your
power to make it good for you, for, as usual, when good goods
ure to be sacrificed we are always on hand. Our Mr. Joe
Waxelbaum was there, and notwithstanding the fact that we
were already prepared with a stock of Seventy-Five Thousand
Dollars, we bought Thirty-Three Thousand more in Roys, Chil
