The home and heart of Mr. A. Dodson, of the Plains of Dura, has been made glad by the advent of a fine girl baby, weighing ten pounds. May she grow up to he as hand some as her mother and as honest as her lather. Our fashionable young lady friends should remember that large bats at opera entertainments are a nuisance to visitors. It is a deal wore comfortable to wear smaller ones, and much more pleasant for those sitting behind. CRIHim CABELE88NE8S. A Sura Bah, Dr.wa.4 t>* lb. Gars* Iuiim if It. Matk.r- ' Wednesday evening late, Coro ner Oaerry waa summoned to bold an inquest over the body of • drowned negro boy In the north- eaatern portion of the eity. About noon, its mother, Ellen Frazier, left her bouse to go to work, and carried her children to the bouse of a neighbor, where there was a girl about seven years old. Some time alter the girl took the boy down to a little stream in the neighborhood where she left him to play. Some time afterward he was heard screaming, but stopped very sud denly. A few hours af(^rward, a negro woman went to look for the boy and found him lying on the edge ol the stream, covered with mud and nearly dead. As soon as possible, Coroner Otierry was sum moned and a jury empanelled. The verdict ol the jury was that the boy came to liis death by drowning, from causes unknown to the jury. His* very common habit among the negro women to leave their children at home alone, or at neighbor’s house, where they re ceive no care or notice. This it often the cause of negro cabins being burned, the children being burned with them. It is a great evil, but there seems to be no way to stop it. l*rlce. T.ll, cud P.opl. Tall the Price*. You know, and we know, that a con tented customer is the best advertisement we can have. But oftentimes low-priced goods mean inferior and trashy materials and make up, hence oar endeavor liaa been to connect theae two strangers, low prices uml good goods, and we are confi dent that onr customers will be as well pleased ss we are at our success. oct!2tf J. It has been suggested .that the Amerious business men close their places of business next Tuesday and devote their tifne to attending the polls, seeing that the voters are all got out, and those who are not entitled to vote are prevented from doing so. We notice that the com mercial exchanges in New York propose closing up Saturday night and not re-open until Wednesday . ... morning. Really there is very Buckwheat forsaio by F. H. Georgians will find no county so agreeable as llicir native state. An lnluuction Granted. Judge Bower, at Isabella last Tuesday, granted an injunction re straining the city council from breaking the Mitchell mill pond, should they decide it a nuisance after hearing the evidence. Iu one sense this is a point against the city in tlftir effort to abate the pond. H seems that there will be no end to the tight tiulil the Supreme Court decides the ques tion. ■lauday to. Hours. Another lnluuction. Wednesday Mr. Geo. Brush, through his attorney, B. y. Anderson A Lunford. OBITUARY. R. F. Wiggins, of Schley oounty, Ga„ departed this life October W, 1884. The subject of tbfc notice was boro la Warren county, Ga., January 37.1824. During his long and nseful life he had gained the friendship of all that knew him, and his death caust>d genuine team of regret to flow from the eyes of his score of mends. Our friend and neighbor made a devoted hnsband and father, and he leaves a grief stricken wife and seven children to miss his kindly end affection ate ministrations. He joined the Mis sionary Baptist ehnreh in 1854 nnder the ministry of the Rev. Isaac Hart, his father-in-law, who has preceded him to the glory world. The burial services were conducted by Rev. MoDonald, who spoke touchingly of (be noble man whose soul has fled to the higher realms of life, where sickness and sorrow pain and death is felt and feared no more Wearied with the burden of this Ufa be nan laid them down. Chilled by an aim sphere filled with evil, he basremov .d to aoli- mate where leaves never die and where he may enjoy forever the balm breathing gardens of the eternal. It was never onr lot to witness so much self composure and calm resignation to the will of God as was manifested by our departed friond and neighbor. He seemed perfectly con* scions of hia condition. As evidence there of, he called hit sons together and gave directions concerning bis business, sny iog his end was near at hand, but be did not dread it. Two of his friends being called to minister to his dying wants, h» asked that they would pmy with him. Being asked if he would like to have any portion of the Scripture read, he suggest ed the third psalm. Alter the psalm was read and the prayer offered, the entire family and friends were astonished at th< hearty and audible amen that he uttered. The evening preceding bis death, seeming perfectly conscious of bis condition, he expressed a desire to have his children all assembled and give him the last part ing kiss while he was yet able to appreci ate the token of aftection. This was in deed a vory touching scene to see the wife of his bosom and the children he loved approaoh the head of a dying fatbei and bestow the last kiss. All in accord ance with his request, who could wjtnes* the above scene and not exclaim with th< ANNOUNCEMENTS. KCMtXU COUNTY. W.tar, authorized to atmoaoo. tb» oams of A. O.
