When Bronson Howard wrots “The Banker’s Daughter," be. pro duced tbe best BOcieCy play tl graoss the boards of the theatre to day, a com* dy that baa been play ed throughout the length and breadth of i he country and met with one universa 1 verdict, viz: Splendid. Tbe story is familiar to play goers and readers. The sscri- flee cf a daughter to save her father; her marriage with a man the does not love, but .who is the soul of honor and pure devotion; hia discovery of his wife’s indiffrr ence to him, after having lived with her lor a period of years, of fering daily his devotion at a shrine hicb with the blindness of lore be could not see was veiled to him their separation, and in tbe end tbe bosband’s recall by tbe wife, who during I is.absence has learned to know bow well she loved him— all this is related with a wealth of incidents that engages and retains the closest attention and a depth of pathos that ap peals to the innermost sensibilities of the spectator. The intrinsic merit of this excellent work is not lessened by the fact that it is entirely devoid of the tendency to cater to a morbid uppetite that comprises a rock of offense in so many ‘‘society’’ plays. “The Bank er’s Daughter" in certainly a very powerful and absorbing play. The story is full of interest, there is an abundaucc of comedy clement to brighten it up, and, above all, the chaiactersare made to talk and act like men and women. To-day promises to be very ex citing, and by many it is feared will end in bloodshed. Cooljudg ment should predominate, and un necessary quarrels be quickly set tled. The police will if possible, be more diligent than ever, and when any one shows an inclination to make trouble, he should be taken in hand. Every Democrat in the city should turu out and voto early and then see that all his neighbors vote. It is hoped that Georgia will gain for herself the reputntion of the banner Democratic State in the Union, and Americus and Sum ter should do their share. Kimball Orfani. Here goods arrive and disappear rapidly. On the first of September last this new store wns opened with one of the largest stocks of Dry Uoods, Clothing, Cloaks, Hals, Shoes and Millinery ever brought to Ameri cus. Every day since then, new and fresh goods bougiit by their New York buyer arrived, and now he finds himself compelled to go to New York to make his second com plete purchase in all linas. Never has anything happened to equal it in the history of the Americus dry goods trade. The only and best reason that nan he assigned to this extraordi nary success, may be summed up in the pluck and enterprise used by the proprietor, and the fact that the purchaser is not slow to find out that 1I8HE is the place to trade. While other merchants hare held (heir goods at regular prices and profits, he saw lit to rcducu his entire stock to such prices and TRADE, THEREFORE I INVITE ALL, AND ESPECI ALLY THE LADIES, ;WHO DE- SIRE TO SELECT FOR TH KMSELVES PURE AND UNADULTERATED articles;.™ my line to GIVE ME A CALL 11 i HAVE ADDED TO MY STORE A LARSE Whereas, Many citizens of this community have heretofore subjected themselves to unnec essary expense and burdensome overcharges in the purchase ol goods; Therefore be it Resolved, That the interests of the people demand the for- mation of a new party which shall concentrate its patronage on one close-dealing candidate, and thus combining with cor rect principles, make still small er profits practical and result in the greatest good for all.
