The Banker’s Daughter, No play for years has boon put on tbe American stage which has been eo generally successful as the Banker's Daughter. People who bave.witnessed it doztus of times Still flock to see it again when even presented by a fairly good compa ny. J. F. Crosscu'a company, which appears here, is highly spok en of by the |tcbs throughout tbe country. It is the only coinpa ny which possesses lira sole right to produce it. The Uuifalo Courier of October 21th, 1883, speaks in the following terms of the compa ny and the play : “At the Grand Opera Home last evening that greatest of American plays, The Banker’s Daughter, was presented by J. F. C'rossen’s company before a largo audicnco which did not fail to give a manifold appro elation of their satisfaction nt the manner in which the characters were enneted. The plot of the play is already too well known to re quire an extended review in these columns. Suffice it to say that the many thrilling and interesting sit uations were listened to with wrapt- attention by the auditors, and tbe members of tbe cast were rewarded with numerous hearty encores. The piece was very effectively set, the most notable scenes being the veu tibule and stairway of the house o' the American minister at Paris, in act third, and the ruins of the chateau near Paris when the duel takes place in act fourth. The play will he repeated this afternoon and evening, and from the favor with which it was received lust night, it is safe to predict largo uudieuces." 8UMTE1I COUNTY. Official Vote. TRe Sew Beet Reel ot the Mechanize, The new hose reel, for running contests, ordered hy the Mechanics Fite Company No. 2 at rived Wed- nceday morning. It is four-wheeled, light and strong, handsomely fin ished, and admirably suited to the purpose for which it was ' made. The reel proper hangs upon linelv polished steel springs, which in turn rest upon steel supports ex tending on each side from lure to hind wheels. The sides of tbe reel are made of sheet iron, which are liandaunely painted. O. er the top ol the riel is an Lrc:t made of uicki 1 plated supports, and in the center of the utch is hung a ham'- s one ornamented lantern bearing the inscription ‘ Michanii'S—2.'’ On each side of tbe areli Is hung a neat nickel-plated lantern. On each side of the carriage is painted in handsome gilt letters the rauie- "C. F. Crisp.” In front, between the forewhtels, is a smaller arck supporting a gilt frame in which appears the portrait of tbe distin guished gentleman for uhotuihe reel was named, while on each side and below the frame are two bright handsome, clear sounding bells. The wheels are large, light and strong, handsomely finished Throughout the carriage is nrtisli cally trimmed with .nickel orna ments, and altogether it is the hanilsqmest, best built running hose carriage in the Stale. It vras built by Messrs. Summers & Mur phy, of Barnesville, and narrowiy escaped being destroyed in the late conflagration at that place. It was exhibited at tbe State Fair in Macon au-1 attracted universal at tention and admiration. The Macon Telegraph says of it: “The reel is now on exhibition in Premium Hull, and visitor* to Itiut ball admire it for its beauty and goad workmanship. Its weight when stripped is about 45U pounds, and is full nickel plated, Wuh two silver bells and ornamented bead light, in which is a portrait of Uon. C. F. Crisp, alter whom it isnumed. The axles and springs arc of bright work, and a trimmer, neater, or more serviceable machine was never sect, in Georgia. It is the finest piece of work ever liir.ned out by Summers Si Murphy, and the boys ut Aiuciicua may well be proud of it.” Tbe Macon correspondent of the Atlanta Constitution says: There was on exhibition the most beautiful tioso reel ever made in Georgia. There is none like il in point ol' beauty, style, lioisii and durability. It is perfect in all ft* par's, sufficiently light, and very easy running. This lour-wheel car riage has attracted as much atten tion and udmirulion as any one other exhibit ill each uud all ot the departments. It was made to special order for the Americus fire cumpauy, and was named in honor of Congressman Crisp, whose hand some picture adonis the reel.” Tbe new reel will he appropri ately christened to night nt the hall of the company, tho pro gramme of which we have already published. Very naturally the Mechanics are very proud of it, and their pridu in it is shared by ail the people ot Americus. RESOLUTIONS OF RMNlL Agaln-haa too hand of death been laid on Follow Lodge, F. and A. Short crops, no rain, too warm for this season of tbe ) ear, lots of dust, money scarce, cotton too low and dull times are the answers now given by all the irercimnls, r ben the “How do you do?” isgivtn them, but bow different with the Bargain Store men. Here goods arrive and disappear rapidly. On the first of September last tbit new store was opened with one of the largest f tucks of Dry Goods, Clothing, Cloaks, Hats, Snoes and Millinery ever brought to Amcri- cus. Kvery day since then, new and fresh goods bought by their New York buyer arrived, and now he finds himself compelled to go to New York to make his second com* plele purchase in all lines. Never has anything happened to equal it in tbe history of the Americus dry goods trade. Tbe only and best reason -.bat can be assigned to this cxlranrdi nary success, may be summed up in the pluck and enterprise used by the proprietor, and the fact that the purchaser is not slow to find out that here is the place to trade. While other merchants have held their goods at regular prices and profits, be saw fit to reduce Ids enliro stock to such prices and profits that would meet theapprov ulof everybody and everybody’s pocket, and succeeded with flattfr j ing success. But we are not near at the end yet. Money is getting scarcer daily. St 11 harder time are coming, and what will be the final result is better imagined than told. The Bsirga n Store man’s pro gramme will be a regular march. He proposes to march down with tho prices ol all his goods yet in stock, in order to march to New York with the proceeds to buy goods lower than they were bough) before. In order to raise as much money as possiblr, the Bargain S orcofieis before bis leaving during tbis week extraordinary inducemi nts to every body, including country mer- hauls. Goods will be sold regard- le.s of c >st, price or profit. Respectfully, 8. M. COHEN, Tbe Bargain Man. Cotton Avenue. Sign of red flag, opposite Bank of Americus. Ratified by the People! sUFftlH.
