For the past twenty-four years the government has been in the hands of the Republican party. Coming into power under the false pretense of being essentially the champion of freedom, it has main tained itself in power by the most tlagrant outrages upon the liberties of the people. It has not scrupled to use the public purse and sword to carry out its political purposes. ; and when even they failed to thwart j public opinion, it resorted to theftj and stole the highest office in the , nation. During all these twenty four j years the Democratic party has j sought to win back the people to the principles ol the founders oi the government, has protested against the continued usurpations of power and profligate use of the public money by the party in power, and in every manner in its power endeavored to cheek the tide that flowed toward an aristocratic government administered for the benefit of a favored few. In the noble fight it has maintained for ! principle it lias had fearful odds to : contend against. Sectional preju- I dices, gigantic monopolies, a Iran- { dred thousand office.holders, j scheming and corrupt demagogues, ! the abuse of official power and an ! unlimited command of money arc some of the many obstacles it has ' bad to overcome. But it has at all timet proven true to its principles, and although defeated for uearly a ' ipiartcr of a century in its purpose j of rescuing the government from \ the hands of those who would dcs- ! troy it, thank Ood It has at last won the victory. OLD ESTABLISHED MERCANTILE HOUSES, WHOSE SOLVENCY AVAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOUNDED ON INDE8TRUCTABLE ROCKS OF UNLIMITED CAPATAL AND UNQUESTIONABLE CREDIT, Tottered and Tell in a lay! Specially was this true of many lprge and celebrated Clothing manufacturers who had made up numerous stocks from materi als bought on credit. These manufacturers placed their faith on lively and profitable September trade, absolutely relying on it for funds to meet their maturing paper, which they had given for piece goods, but the trade did not come, the continuous warm weather and no customers cooked their “goose,” and there was nothing left for them to do but to fail and turn their goods over to an Assignee. It was bad for them, but it is in your power to make it good for you, lor, as usual, when good goods are to be sacrificed we are always on hand. Our Mr. Joe Waxelbaum was there, and notwithstanding the fact that we were already prepared with a stock of Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars, wo bought Thirty-Three Thousand more in Boys, Chil drens and^Men’s Clothing, Dry Goods, Dress Goods, Fancy Goods, Corsets, etc., at prices varying from 80 to 60 per cent, of the actual value. Promptly at 8 o’clock Monday Morning 1 and itgwill be to the interest of every one in this city or country to be on hand, for at the prices we propose selling these goods you were never offered them in the history of the dry goods, clothing, boot and shoe trade.
