There are many varleti si of the genus
tnulee. There’s the smile that’s childlike
and blend, the cultivated smile, and
the plebeian anile that rlpplet forth like the
first Joyous laugh of ths boiler factory, and
that spreads out with a gurgle that dueei
the eye, trota out the svisdom teeth and than
•bows a roguish dimple In the tonsils.
There might be enumerated, also, the
classical smile, the subdued smile, the parlor
smile, the eaorad smile, the before-election
smile, and the after-election smile.
Then we here the etage smile and the por
trait smile. Do you cell to mind the genial

An Appropriate Hymn.

At u recent Sunday school meeting in

When he sat down the leader of the meet in?

A Patriotic Irlwh Statesman.
A joy 1 do not feet.
Joy is something that wo cannot eeite
ruthlessly and lead it into the photograph
er’s laboratory by the ear. I’ve tried tliat.
1 always leave my umbrella and my hope
behind when I go into the photographer’s
gilded hell. I can laugh while the dentist
pulls out my sound teeth and plugs the poor
ones, and I can even be gay while nature
and the cucumber of commerce are engaged
in mortal combat, but I cannot affect a joy
tlwt I do not feel while the cast-iron hat-
ruck of the artist leans against my love of
homo, and the artist bids me look at a place
on the wall that is freckled with iodine.
I am poaitive that the art of photograph
ing is upon the eve of u graud stride toward
perfection. Those who have never soen any
thing on the eve of a grand stride will find
little of interest in what I am about to say;
but the day is not far distant vhen uo sane
man will have his photograph pulled with
out the administration of an anaesthetic.
Cut this out and see If I am not right.

Short crops, no rain, too warm
for this season of the year, lots of
dust, money scarce, cotton too low
and dull times are the answers now
givon by alt the merchants, when
the “How do you do 1” Is given
them, but how different with the
Bargain Store men. Here goods
arrive and disappear rapidly.
On the Qrst of September last
this new store was opened with ons
ot (he largest stock, of Dry bloods,
Clothing, Cloaks, Hats, Shoes and
Millinery ever brought to Ameri
cus.
Every day since then, new and
fresh goods bought by tlielr New
York bnyer arrived, and now hs
finds himself compelled Ok go to
New York to make bis second com*
pletc purchase in all lines. Never
lias anything happened to equal it
in tho history of the Americus dry
goods trade.
Tho only and best reason that
nan bo assigned to this extraordi
nary success, may be summed up
in tbe pluck and enterprise used
by tbe proprietor, and the fact that
the purchaser Is not slow to find
out that ininn is tbe place to trade.
While other merchants have held
their goods at regular prices and
profits, he saw fit to reduce bis
entire stock to such prioes and
profits tliat would meet tbe approv
al of everybody and everybody’s
pocket, and succeeded with flatMr-
ing success. But we are not near
at the end yet. Money is getting
scarcer daily. Still harder times
arc coming, and what will be tbe
final result Is better imagined than
told.
The Barga’n Store man’s pro
gramme will be a regular march.
He proposes to march down with
the prices oi all his goods yet In
stock, in order to march to Mow
York with the proceeds to buy
goods lower than they were bought
before.
In order to raise as much money
as possible, tbe Bargain Store offer*
before his leaving during this
week extraordinary inducements to
everybody, including country mer
chants. Goods will be sold regard
less of o'ist, price or profit.
Respectfully,
S. M. COHEN,
The Bargain Man.
