Calls for our red edition still continue to come in, but we are unable to supply them. If you want the Recorder, you must sub scribe for it. Our Gilt Distribution promises to bo as well patronized as the previous ones. The only way to get into it, though, is to plank down the money. One of our boys remarked as ho was returning home from Macon last week' that he never felt better and had less in hla life. We can uertifv to the latter. Mr. S. M. Cohen, tho Bargain Man, was to have arrived home from New York last night, and If he did, our readers will hear from him in tbe morning. The Goldens will be here about the first of December. Their dates have not yet been arranged. When they do come they will be greeted with orowdod houses. Tho mayoralty canvass has opened np under a full head of ■team, and there will probably be some improvement In the quantity and quality of locril news. Our daily list still continues to Increase, and we would be happy to place a few more hundred names on our books. If you want to help us give you a good paper, get your neighbors and friends to sub scribe. We have not bad a good season of rain in this county since the first of July, a period of more than four months. Many of tho smaller streams of tho county have gone dh^r/yit ear wolle hold oat splen didly. Carp pones throughout the county have fallen considerably and we have heard of them drying entirely up in some Instances. A Combination. Yesterday it waa the talk of the (treats that the various candidates for Mayor would submit their olaimi to a Democratic nominating convention, the best man to rnn for Mayor and the others to with draw. Whether all the candi dates agreed to this proposition or not, we do not know, but the matter.. will probably be settled in time for ns to annsnnee it in to-morrow’s Recobdeb. As far as the Recobdeb Is concerned, it makes not a bit of diffarcnce who ii nominated or who is elected, as we take no Interest In tbe scramble. Another Obstruction. Tuesday night, as the ten o’clock psssenger train from Macon was coming in, it struck an iron rail between Troupe and Jackson streets^ The rail was” placed end npin the middle of the track in such a manner as to throw the train off. The engineer failed to see the obstruction, and as the cow catcher struck it, it rsised and carried it fully sixty feet. All of that dis tance the track and ties were lorn up, and the marks still remain. The engineer felt the unusual jar, and reported the matter to tbe conductor, and an examination was made, revealing the above facts. The matter is still clouded in mystery, not the slightest clue being found to it. What object the perpetrator could have bad is not known. This makes twice within a week that trains on that road have been assaulted with a View to injury. Had the train been thrown oil the track, as was doubt less intended, it would hare gone down a high grade and serious damage would have resulted. We hopo tbe authorities will succeed in finding the miscreants. Tbe Infantry Pair. Monday night of next week the Americus Light Infantry Fair will open by tbe presentation of a very fine flag to the company by the lady honorary members, otherwise tbe Broom Drill. We understand the presentation will bo a very elaborate affair, and will be partic ipated in by many of tbe leading ladies of tbe city. After the pre sentation the fair will be duly de clared open, and the fun will com mence. Many new and interesting features will be introduced during the progress of the fair, and the managers will do everything in their power to make it the most memorable event in the history of Americus. The committee in charge of the afiair request the at tendance and assistance of all the people of Americus. The Macon Telegraph has a long •diloriai upon “Improving tbe Girls.” The girls are good enough for us as they are, and too good for most of the men they marry. Tho world is not yet quite ready for female angels Amebicus Re corder. Now, just listen! Who ■aid tbe world was ready for fe male angels? We didn’t. Yet the bachelor editor would seek to court feminine favor by imputing to us a position we do not occupy. We disliko to advertise tho fact, but the above is the last pathetic wail of a bachelor, who sees in the dying hours of leap year his hopes falling like leaves before tho blast. —Macon Telegraph. That is where you again display your ignorance of human nature— we arc a married man. It is yonr baebelor editors who prate about female angels; but yonr married man knows that women are not angels, but the highest type of mortal, a eomfort and a blessing to man—especially the blessing, when bo comes late at night and wakes np all tbe furniture in the house in trying to find the bed, mkeuoryopTittle hin.hr.
