Business men are not supposed to laugh at any order, hoircrer ex travagant, that mar bo scut them but if one ol Lynn’s big shoe deal ers didn’t Indulge in a real ghastly smile when lie received one order ’hie fall, it was because he had not sufficient strength left. J. M Far- uum Is a coloredpraoher in Char, lotte, end hie fighting woizbt, wbeu skirmishing with the legion of Satan, is 410 pounds. He stands C feet 10 inches high without his boots, and, taken collectively, would bo a dangerous man to fall under at a skating rink. Some time ago a Northern gentleman met Mr. Farnum In the South, and the latter ordered a pair of shoes made for him at the North, for which this gentleman took the measure. The order was given to Lynn’s leading shoe manufacturer, but it was too much for him, and a pair of shoes were made from a special last in Boston and sont tho revorend gentleman. Tho shoes are thirty-five’s. The length from heel to too is just twenty inches, and the width of the bail, including a protuberance that may be a corn and may be natural is a trifle over 7 J inches. Some idea of the “tout ensemble” may he gained from the faot that a pasteboard copy of tho eolc of ono of the shoes which a re porter carried in his overcoat pock et, extended from the depths of the pockets to the armpits. This copy was taken from a measure ment of tho bootless foot of the olergyman, and those who know pronounced it correct. From tho forward end of the sole a piece the size or a dessert plate could easily he cut. The heel, if the proper material, would make a decidedly generous flap jack, and the whole thing in shape and size, ,,M gives one tbo irresistible impres- sion of a tennis racket or an elonga ted shirt front, without its sym metry.
