The tickets will bo on sale with the ladies at tbe fair, with tho fire men, and a number of merchants.” Good houses at the matinee and at last night’s performance greeted Alfred Miaco with his renowned Humpty Dumpty and - Mother Goose Specialty Company. Hump. ty Dumpty—Mr. Alfred F. Miaco —was admirable In his way, look- iug aa hideously grotesque as red paint and flour could make him, and in a matter of flying all to pieees without any warning at all, and then suddenly pulling himself together again after the fashion of Jointed snake, he is certainly un surpassed, Mr, Devine, the' Har lequin aud Miss Laura Miaco, Col umbine,'were very good; all the characters were well made up; their tinsel glittered with nnOsual bright ness, and the mechanical effects in the shape of Various animals, the giant policeman, the submarine palace, Ac., were first class: the funny business kept tho house in a roar tf laughter for two hours nod a half.—Constitution, Atlanta Gcor- +■ ■- iaa&aaa ;• * - ** City I It has been sq, we deem the suggestion an emi nently proper one, that the citizen tax-payers of the city, who are We deeply Interested than any Other to tbe management of city affairs, should meet and nominate candidates for the various city offices. It baa been tbe fault of all heavy tax-payers In all cities that they took too little interest in the selection ,(M Abe meD managed the affairs of the city, and to this rale Americus is no exception. As a rule the men who do the most growling and make the most charges against the management of city affairs take the least interest In tbe election of officers. This is wrong and la liable to lead to mal- administration, as it did in Ne,w york-cItyAJf Lhftre is' any class who should take an interest in the election of city officers, it should be tbe mou who pay the taxes. It is to their interest that the affairs of tbe city should be economically administered without hindering such enterprises as would tend to tbe building up of the city. There ought to be no strife in the elec tion of Mayor and Aldermen, for all feel the same interest in secur ing honest and efficient officers, and we are satisfied that all strife could be avoided and the best offi cers secured by the united action of our citizens in a meeting called for the purpose. With the united support of the better class of citi zens, there would be no necessity for any candidate pandering to the prejudices or passions of tho lower glass who pay little or no taxes and are interested in the election only to tho extent of what they can make out of it. J’hat oity succeeds best which is united in action and whoso government is administered in the interest of the whole people.- -There are no great issues at stake in the coming city election, and there is no reason why the citizens should not unite upon good men for officers and save a mere personal fight, which may result in barm, and can result in no more good than if a people’s ticket was unanimously elected. We are having some winter hero. It snowed nearly all day yesterday, so tbe ground is covered, but it not cold. We have had good crops in tbis part of the state the past year. Notwithstanding the Repub licans said if the Democrats elected Cleveland we would have to work for twenty-five cents per day, corn would bo worth fifteen ortwenty cents per bushel, pork two centB pound, and everything else in pro portion, they have been happily disappointed. Everything moves along as before. Yours truly, Edwin Pbiston. Enough Honor. Messrs. Bell, Morgan and Wil liams, at present members of the Oity Council, whoso term expires this year, have decided that they have had enough honor in serving the city as Aldermen at nothing a year and curses throwu in, and consequently will not be candidates for re-election. They aro all good men, have served the city faith fully, aud we are sorry to lose them; but we cannot blame them for wishing to retire from a post lion where their best endeavors meet with more criticism than praise. Last night Protector Hook and Ladder Company had their annual frolic, and from tho indications and the preparations wc saw in the afternoon and before going to press we are confident they had a big l.ime. Henry Anderson is tho pop ular foreman of the company, and when he puts hia hand to anything he does it np right.
