Our cotton reoeipts have fallen off great ly since the commission was estab lished, and we are to-day paying a higher rate on cotton than any other-town in Southern or South west Georgia, In proportion to the distance of haul. In other words, our freight rate le, relatively speak ing, higher then that of any other market in this pert of the State. Americus, Cuthbsrt, Thomas- Vlilo and, In short, all of our com pctlng markets have, a lower rate than Albany, In spite of the faot that we are nearer Savannah by the B. A W. road to Wayorossand thence over the S. F. & W. than any obe of the town* named, and are hearer than come of them by at least two of.the lioes connecting this point with Savannah. Bunts the commission went into operation, Albany had a lower rate on cotton than any of tbo points mentioned; and, at a result, cetton was then shipped here from ail from alf potato on the Blakely ex tension. It Is not to now. We no longer handle tbo cotton from these points." These manufacturers placed their faith Uvely and profitable September trade, absolutely relying on it for funds to meet their maturing paper, which they had given for piece goods, but the trade did not come, the continuous warm weather and no customers cooked their “goose,” and there was nothing left for them to do but to fail and turn their goods with over to an Assignee. It was bad for them, but it is in your power to make it good for you, for, as usual, when good goods arc to he sacrificed we are always on hand. Our Mr. Joe Wartelbaum was there, and notwithstanding the fact that we were already prepared with a stock of Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars, ,wp bought Thirty-Three Thousand more in Boys, Chil drens and' Men's Clothing, Dry Goods, Dress Goods, Fancy Goods, Corsets, etc., at prices varying from 30 to 60 per cent, of the actual value.
