The excitemeut was intense, and
Moore was immediately offored a'l

chance. He refused to sell, be
lieving he had a very certain thing.
Finally bo cold two-thirds of his
chance to Messrs. Clay and Mc
Kenzie. The. throwing was pro
ceeded with while the boys staked
their money up that' forty-four
would not be beaten. A good many
times they had their nerves shaken
when rome lucky individual would
throw thirty or thirty-two in two
throws. But forty-four was hard
to beat, and as the chances to beat
it grew less it was generally con
ceded that it would not bo beaten
When the last chance had been
thrown Mr. Moore was announced
as tho winner.
Cliff Olay then put up his $100
breech-loading shot gun to be raf
fled, and the fifty chances were
quickly taken. It was thrown soon
alterward, tor tv-three winning it.
Several gentlemen tied on forty-
one, and it looked for a time as if
that number would win it.
Both rallies passed of! pleasant
ly, there being tho utmost good
feeling manifested.

Christmas Day was a vary quiet
ono in Americus, the “Fantfistlcs"
not even being out. The negroes
claimed and received their usual
"Christmas gifts,” tho boys with
the beavers drank their usual num
ber of egg-nogs and Tom and Jer
ries, the usual number went out
gunuing, and the old-married and
sedate men remained at home and
ate their lat turkeys. The day was
a diieouragiug one in tho way of
weather, and it would rain and
mist alternately throughout the
day. The display of fireworks in
the evening was better than it has
been for a nqmber of years, and up
to ntbe and ten o’clock tho differ
ent scotions of tho oity would be
ablaze with the rook eta and can
dle*. It viai a quiet aod enjoyable
Christmas.
A Romantic Marriage.
Lata Wednesday evening a tele
gram wa* received in thia city an-
nouncing that Misa Georgia Lara-
more, ol Lee county, had been mar
ried that afternoon in Smithville
to Mr. W. D. Holt, a conductor on
the Southwestern. The message
oreated somewhat of a neusation,
as It wat reported that Misa Lara-
more was to have been married’ to
a' certain Americas young tain on

(or the event had been going on
for some time, the young man even

ure and engage board. The mar-

Closed Up.
Yesterday evening, at 5 o'clock,
Deputy Sheriff Cobb served an at
tachment on Mr. A. D. B. McKen
zie, and closed his doors. Mr. Mc
Kenzie at once turned over his
keys. When asked the. cause, .be
said that his brother in Eufuula
bad failed And bis creditor* bad is
sued an attachment against himself
claiming that fits brother had an
interest in the store. Ho said t(jat
he did not owe his brother or any
one else a cent, but there was no
nse in resisting the. law. The pa
pers .wore made out against J. 0.
McKenzie A Co. and it is quite like
ly that the matter will be arranged
and. the store opened in a day or so.

Friday, about noon, the Hunt-
ley band turned tho corner at
Gyles’ store with drums beating
and horns tooting, as usual. A
big mule, bitched to a light wagon,
bowed to tho nudionco and went
off down Price alley like a rocket.
A man caught the bridle, but the
bit broke and tho mule kept on in the
even, tdno* oi his way. Back of
the warehouse he reconsidered the
matter and stopped as suddenly as
he started. But little damage was
done, but the boya raised a yell
that woke the Christmas echoes.
