Americus Recorder. w. t. aunm. uiur. Metal Organ of Webiter WEDNESDAY. DEC. »8#4 TUB HEN SOUTH We have received a New Yorkpnly Iicntion called the “New South.’ It'D 'printed' (n German and dcclar- e* ita object to be to' induce emi gration tolEl? country. We make this nottoe only to'any what we have aaid before, that we bave no •ySipathy whatever with the pur- poee of the publication. It foreign, era will come here upon an inde pendent baaie, paying their own way and selecting, tbeir own bomea and following their calling, like onr own people, we are prepared to welcome them; bot we are opposed th offering them any manner ot bounty or other inducement than snob a*i» offered' our own people to move from one Slate to another, to get them here. This country is now fuir of people who are strug gling hard for a mere living, and their condition will not not be im proved by bringing to their shores from abroad hundreds oi ship loads of foreigners In like, or worse con- dlllon. We have never taken kind, ly to the term “New South” nor to the ideas intended to be conveyed by it, and our aversion to it will be intensified if it is to be vitaticed'to a greater activity, by the importa. tlon of emigrants from abroad.— Columbna Times. Our neighbor is evidently labor, ing under a mistake in sapposlng that tbo publication alluded to ad. vooates the importation ot pan pers into this country. It almply proposes to do for the South what otherpubllcations are doing for the West—calling the attention of for eign emigrants to the resources and advantages of the South as a place of settlement. These emi grants bring with them enough money, generally, to buy a little farm and improve It, and are not dependent upe'n bharity. As a class they are industrious and frugal apd make peaceable and law-abiding oituens. The Norwegians and Swedes generally seek the colder dime of the Northwest, and Wis consin, Minnesota and Dakotp are largely peopled with them. The Southern States would especially snlt the Germans, French, English and iHsh, ai the climate is more like tljat of their native country, and more effort should be made than baa been made heretofore to Induce them to settle upon our cheap lands, as it is an Industrious population that makes a country rich. It is not neacssary that ady bounty should be ottered, as our cheap lands and genial olimate are sufficient' Inducements, when once made known to them. As to tbs term “New South,"we esn see no objection to It, when ita meaning it tint it is entering npen a new era of growth and prosperity. The old order of things baring passed a way,, it is beet to adapt ou|*elvt*}jQ add lm-. prove it by every means in our power, Slavenr, whioh meant large plantatlbna, having beeb done away with, the large plantattona should bo done away with also, and a new era of email farm* and earafnl cul tivation be inaugurated.
