The people of Macon seein deter
mined to bring Brown, the scan
dalous reporter of the Cincinnati
Snquirer, to justice, if they can
find him, and they are making
strong efforts in that direction.
The politicians hare been dub
bing Cleveland “the silent man.’’
And yet we hear more of and from
him than we do ot a man named
Blaine, who, on the 6th of last No-
▼ember, claimed that he was elect
ed President.
One of the Republican members
of the Illinois Legislature, named
Logan, dropped dead in the State
House on Thursday. This gives
the Democrats a majority ot one on
joint ballot, but the Republicans
can prevent an election by absent
ing themselves and thus breaking
the quorum.
The Birmingham (Ala.) Chronicle
boasts that Alabama is the only
State in the Union that can furnish
any known product used by man.

A correspondent of the Phila
delphia Record gives it as his
•pillion that there is no danger of
the Yankees capturing Florida, be
cause Florida ia absolutely certain
to capture tbe Yankees; that is, all
who settle in the Land of Flowers.
Men can not shape the climate, tut
tbe climate shapes men. North
erners in Florida gradually fall in-
to indolent ways. They neglect
their fences, let their gardens go to
weeds, and abandon their rapid
stride for the languid shuffle ot the
natives. Tbe Record correspond
ent does not believe that it is rea
sonable that a person who can pick
hla breakfast from an orange tree
and gather a dinner of bananas
should develop the energy of a dif
ferently situated person, who must
plant hie potatoes and hoe and dig
them before he can have the pleas
ure of eating them.
These foreign loan agencies are
beginning to. bring forth their
legitimate fruit. One of their mort
gages was recently foreclosed in
the U. S. Court end a tract of land
In Washington county was sold.
We find the above item going
the rounds of our exchanges, as
theugh some dire calamity was at
hand. One piece of properly in
tbe entire State has been sold to
satisfy a mortgage held by a for
eign lean agency. New, bow man}
pieces have been sold to satisfy the
claims of home loan agencies, banks
and individuals? It is a pretty
well established fact tbat the peo
ple who borrow money are expec
ted to pay it, and if they tail to do
so tbat their properly will be sold
t* satisfy the claim. We fail to
see any particular difference be
tween tbe resident and foreign
.money lender so far as collections
are concerned, and so we fail to see
the peculiarpertinence ot the above
item. Are we to infer that the
papers of this St.te ere averse to
foreign capital being invested in
tbit State?
