THE WAY TO DO IT.
Tbe Recorder has a bobby, aod
it rides it frequently, if not oflener;
it may be a little too often to suit
some of its readers, but they lisve
been very lenient so far, probably
overlooking tbia peculiarity in con-
aideration of its many good quali
ties.
The Recorder's hobby ia tbe de-1
▼elopment aod advancement of
Southwestern Georgia and the city
of Americus. It believes this can
be beat done by inducing industri-
oua, intelligent farmers to buy some
of our surplus land and make it
productive by skilled laboi, mod
ern methods ef cultivation and im
proved implements. It believes
that auch immigration would en
hance the value of lands in this
section, inaugurate new enterprises
and Increase the trade ot Americus.
In furtherance of this end, the
Recorder has for tbe past two
years urged upon tbe citizens of
Americus aud Sumter county tbe
importance of organizing an Immi
gration and Improvement Aseocia
lion, whose business it shall oe to
collect, print aod circulate informa
tion regarding this section and
otherwise advertise its resources.
While the Recorder has been run
ning a kind of private bureau ot
this nature, doing all in ita power
to induce immigration, it can tee
where an Association can do it
much better. The feet that an
Association of citizens is inviting
the people from other Stales to set
tie in this section would lie evi
dence that tbe people of this sec
tion desire such immigration, and
would carry with it an assurance 1
of welcome that could not be given
hy the word of an individual. It!
would also divide tbe cost and
labor of furnishing the information
asked by intending settlers.
Tbe oitizens of Perry and Hous
ton county realize the importance
of such action, and are organizing
just such an association as tbe Re- '
cobder has been advocating. The
Perry Home Journal gives the fol
lowing facta in relation to it:
The idea forming the foundation
upon which tbe organization is to
be constructed ia that Perry needs
