WEDNESDAY. MARCH 11. - W.
■ 11E KXI’OSl-
UEOKUIA DAY AT
T101,
The following address has been
iasued to the people of Georgia by
Hon. DeWitt C. 13acou, Commis
sioner for this state to the Exposi
tion:
One of the leading and most nt-
trative features of the World’s Ex
position is the setting apart af
some particular day for some par
ticular State. Already a number
of States and Territories repre
sented at the Exposition have had
their days, and in every instance
the result has been .cost satislac-
tory; as it brought together dele
gations from all sections of the
State and their friends from other
Stales. “Georgia Day” has been
arranged for the 24th of March,
and it is the desire ot the Commis
sioner from Georgia, his assistants
and the management of the Expo
sition to bring together upon that
occasion as many Georgians as can
avail themselves of the opportunity
of going.
Governor McDaniel and staff, to
gether with several State House
Officers, will be present in a body.
The General Assembly have been
specially invited to atlen !, and
many of them have consented to
go. It is especially desirable that
all of the following organizations
should arrange to take part in the
the various features of the occa-
■ion: The agricultural organiza
tions #f eaery character in the
State, the various military organi
zations of Georgia, commercial and
other civic associations, and tliu
public generally, so that the inter
eits #f the entire State may be
represented.
Our Constitution and laws pro
hibit the appropriation of money
from the State Treasury to enable
the State Government to inuke an
exhibit, but individuals have con
tributed in means and articles for
display, and we are not without a
creditable representative at the
Exposition. Georgians should
show their sympathy with this, the
grandest exhibition ever inaiigu
rated, and attend in large numbers,
especially on the 24th inst., Geor
gia’s Day. Thousands of Georgians
will be there from the great South
western Slates, and it will be a
grand and joyous reunion of old
friends who have not seen each
other in years.
Special reduced railroad rates
have been recently established.
Within a distance of six hundred
miles of New Orleans the rate is
one and one-quarter cents per
mile, and over six hundred miles
one cent.
These rates will enable a man
from any eection of Georgia to go
to New Orleans and return at a
sum not exceeding $15, and special
rates may be arranged with the
railroads for organizations.
| return via Montgomery, Ala., by I
i that route, on presentation of their j
Press Association tickets.
As heretofore announced, the
Central llailroad, - the Savannah,
Florida and Western Railway, the ;
Georgia Railroad, the Western and
Atlantic Railroad Company, and
the East Tennessee, Virginia and
Georgia Railroad have extended
the usual courtesies to delegates.
and their ladies. The President
of the Association will famish '
tickets on application.
J. H. KstiLI., President. 1
The New York Times, in speak
ing of the inauguration, says the
impression made by President
Cleveland in Washington yester
day was marked and favorable. It
was a severe test, when it is re
membered that personally he was
entirely unknown to nearly all
those who assembled in vast num
bers tc receive him, and that when
he entered the national capital as
Presidentelect he entered it foi
the first time. His perfect sell-
command and easy and dignified
bearing, with the strength of the
address which he delivered, gave
new confidence to all classes of ob
servers.
