Professial offlae seekers do not. ]
seem to be meeting witli much favor
from the new administration.
Georgia farmers have shown !
what they could do in raising corn !
on a small scale—now let them show
what they can do on a large Beale,
the larger the better.
The Atlanta Constitution advo
cates the cultivation of the sting
less honey bee. But would noi
this rob us of that poetical senti
ment that “there is no sweet with
out its biter? 1 ’
Only 1,611 lilc insurance policies
are held in Georgia. They call for
$6,872,268 when turned into cash
by the death of holders, or the ex
jlirations of their terms. North
Carolina holds twice as many poli
cies.
Senator Colquitt is evidently a
bigger man than Joe Brown with
the administration, as he secured
the appointment of Ben Hill as at
torney for the northern district,
while Brown recommended a man
namtd Simmons.
We grumble in this slate cvet
the slow coming of Spring, and I 1
would be an excellent discipline,
perhaps, if we were carried to tin
Hunson river, where the ice is re
ported lobe at firm and thick as at
any time this winter.
Petitions-do not seem to be good
paper under the new administra
tion, as thus far the men who havi
been appointed have not been si
solicitous as to bore their friends
and the public generally for signa
tures to tbeir recommendation.
Some of the Republican office
holders in Washington have such
a tight grip on their offices that r
becomes necessary to choke them
off. They seem to have been imbuen
with the popular Rcpuulican ides
that the offices belong to them.
And now the Right Reverend
Bishop Samuel Fallows, of Cliica
go, declares the end ol the world to
be near. Well, considering the
manner in which the Democratic
administration has gone to work, it
does look ns though the millcniiim
was at band.
The last number ol the Moslem
ms Record comes out in a hand
some new dress, making it one of
the neatest weeklies on our ex*
change list, as it is one of the best.
The Record is a borne paper, full
of home news, with always a gcod
word tor home.
The Louisville Courier Journal
is not pleased with the refusal ol
President Cleveland to appoint
Phil Thompson as commissioner of
internal revenue. We did not sup
pose it would be, but it suits the
people well, who see in it a deter
minalion to make the whiskey m- n
pay their taxes like other people.
The people of Albany seem lo
appreciate the value of adierlif-
ing. Last Tuesday a number of
Georgia editors, on their way to
the annual meeting of the Press
Association, had to stop over sev
eral hours in Albany, when the
City Council promptly appropri
ated $150 for the purpose of dining
and wining the editors, driving
them around town, and giving them
generally a good impression ol the
enterprising little city.
