Montezuma is to have a boat. It
ill be built at that place and cost
13.000. It will he a steam barge
100x20 feet, with a carrying capaci
ty of four hundred bales of cotton.
It will be built under the supervis
ion of an experienced man from
Columbus, and it is hoped tli&t it
will be completed by October 10th.
In looking over our exchanges,
and noting in them the wants and
short cominga of the towns in which
they are published, we are led to
think that Americus is most fortu
nately situated and her people haTe
shown a spirit of enterprise that
has placed them far ahead of her
neighbors. From one town comes
a complaint of lack ot educational
facilities. Americus, has a school
system that is not surpassed by
any city in Georgia. From anotn-
er town comes a demand for pro
tcotion against tire. Americus has
two fine sleaui lire engines, one
hand engine, hose reels and hook
and ladder truck, albwell manned
by experienced firemen. Another
