On Friday. September 4ib. we slml!

from the coming lesae, Especial atten

throughout the territory opened to u*
by the A. P. dt I* railroad.
AN EDITION OF 6,00') COPIES

the people to tbe inducement, they Imre
to offer, wo hope to hare every bnaiueaa

• ne. that it may be a complete expoaition
of the commercial wealth and enterpnae
of onr enterprising city
A Western physician claim* to
have discovered the human soul
through the menna ,f a microscope.
It would take a powerful micro
scope to discover some men's aoula.
It has been discovered that a
clerk in the postollicc department
at Washington has (or two years
been insance and confined in an
asylum near Providence, K. I.,but
has all the lime been drawing hi*
salary of $1400 per year.
Mr. Kelly, the Minister to Aus
tria, has returned to Wnshinglou.
It Is said that his resignation will
not he nsked, ns Austria has given
no good reason lor refusing to re
ccivehim. It is thought, however,
that he will resign and lie given
some olllce at home.
The Iowa Radicals have followed
the example set them by their Ohio
brethren, and in their Slate plat
form wave the better. The more
that shirt is waved in Ups dar, the
leas the chances for Radical suc
cess. The people demand stales-
manship anil honesty now, not sec
tlenal hate.
The Democrats of Ohio arc hope
ful of success in the coming elec
tion, and they have reason to tie,
for there is always a large floating
▼ote which follows the party in
power, and this vole the Democrats
will now get. The influence of a
party In power is always great,
and will give tbs Democrats all the
close states this fall.
Tbe laat number of Harper's
Weekly has a picture ol tbe South
at the plow handles, while White-
law Reid, editor of the New York
Tribune, is on bended knees beside
the plowman. To tbe frantic ap
peal being made by the Tribune
editor the South responds, “I
abould like to oblige you by killing
a few negroes, Mr. Tribuns, but I
am to# busy.”
If many more distinguished men
die, tha army of the United States
will be ohiefly employed in guard
ing their homes and grave*. The
troops have just been removed from
guarding tbe cottage in which
Grant died. A detail of 24 regulars
atlll guard Qarfleld's tomb. Gar
field has been dead four years.
How much longer is the guard to
be kept up ?
Col. Michael L. Woods, whom
everybody in Alabama knows as a
former resident of that State, and
now a lawyer in Washington,
writes to the Montgomery Adver-
tiser s positive ofiniou that there
is hope for the owners of cotton
claims against the government. lie
endorses the association organized
for pushing these claims through
Congress, and thinks the Supreme
Court having decided that the
right of property reals in tho own
ers. Congress will sooner or laier
make provision for reimbursing
C°' on *l Woods’ experience
» these manors gives his opinion
gnu watght.
A FARCICAL FIG Hi.
A few weeks ago Representative
Connell introduced a bill to lax
bachelors, whereupon Larry Gantt,
editor of the Banner-Watchman,
proceeded to maku fun of Mr. Con
nell and denounce him lor fooling
away the time of the legislature.
Mr. Connell then rises to a ques
tion of privilege and ptocceds in
choice parliamentary language to
call Editor Gantt a liar and
a coward, and expresses the
opinion that hauging is too good
for Idm. Tbe curtain dropped
upon the dramatic scene, and the
audience is treated to distant mut
tering of thunder behind the scenes,
with an occasional flaih of red
light. Again the curtain rises,
and instead of pistols and collee for
two, there is a scene from Damon
and Pythias, they both take it all
back and are so. ry that they ever
said it, while the board of arbitra
tors with uplifted bands exclaim,
‘•bless you my children, bless you!’’
A very pretty farce, but it has been
played so often the sensation lov
ing public are getting tired of it.
Another "Georgia Wonder” has
been developed in the |>erson of
Miss N.attic Pound, a young lady
of Macon, who exhibits astonishing
powers as a ‘‘mind reader.” The
Macon correspondent of tbe Atlanta
Constitution writes that “she does
not require to touch the person
whose thoughts she wishes to di- I
vine, hut simply fixes her eyes on
the person's face and quickly tells
of what the person is thinking.
She tells the thought in exactly
tho words the person would use if
he would tell it himself.”
The power of Georgia women
seems to ha unlimited. They hate
always been magnetic and of won
derful will power, but now they nre
getting absolutely dangerous. The ;
next thing after mind reading will |
bn to tell what a man is doing up
town after night, and then all do- i
meslic peace will be destroyed. A
hull had better be called at onee,
eie our social system is forever
wrecked.
It is In Great Favor,
Physicians employ Speer's Port
Grape Wine in their practice in all
cases where a pure wine is called
for, and do all in their power to
foster and encourage its production.
It is in great favor among the
most wealthy in New York and
Washington Cities as a family wine
and for evening entertainments.
