‘•It weighed about eight pounds
snd a -piarter, and w as a tine speci
men of a red fox,” said Mr. U. T.
Davenport to a crowd in front of
Joiner A Nicboi-on’s yesterday
morning, as be told about a fine
fox chase near Mr. C. S S. Horn's,
in the 28th distict.
“Tell us about it, Mr. Daven
port,” said a Rkioruer man.
J^‘‘We!l, the fnx was heard about
sun up Ibis morning, and was
chased by Len'Parker, Jim Bass,
John Clements, Will Oriffiu, and
Cot Perry, and fourteen dogs. Tbe
run commenced near J. D. Stew
art's, and the fox made for an old
hurricane track near there, which
was filled with logs and (alien trees.
He was chased through tbe hurri
cane track, i-amc back, went out
again, came bade and was at last
got into Horne’s cotton patch.
Horne's cotton patch was originally
about waist higb.and boiled out,but
by tbe time the- fox, tbe men and
the dogs got through, no pickers
were needed in that field. The
horses were useless when the hurri
cane track was being worked, and
the men were on fool. The fox was
cut oil twice going direct for the
track again, and the men and dogs
bad their bands full. Occasionally
there would be a lull, and the men
would rest on stumps and fences.
The chase lasted until about ten
o'clock, when at last tbe fox was
caught about a half mile from
Horne's. The dogs were nearly
derd, one of the best having given
out some lime tielore the chase was
finished.”
“And what was done with the
fox?”
“I had been in the- road about in
the middle of the circuit, and
helped them by telling them where
lie was. so when they caught him
they gave him to me. I brought
him home, and my children nearly
went wild over him. He was a fine
red fox.”

right under it, and the tattling
