Speaking of hotels and North
ern visitors, a few days ago we wen-
talking with Capt. O. G. Robinson,
of Pawson, who has just completed
a handsome frame hotel ol thirty-
live rooms, with a wide veranda two
hundred and eleven leet long, and
he informed us that the cost tvas
only $15,000. This will be a little
surprising to those who Jliave been
led to think that nothing less than
$50,000 would build a hotel.
The Kufauln Times is looking
forward\o an era of prosperity. It

become a prohibition State, which
seems likely to be the ease bclorc a
great while, the lh|Uor dealers in
the towns and oilics along the

Their night canoe trade will of it

In conclusion we suggest to the
Clarion that the same causes that
brought Thomasvillc oeforc the

For years the people of the
Northwest had an idea that grain
could not lie grogrn in the South,
and they had a very good founda
tion for the idea ill the large amount
of grain shipped from that section
to the South: in fact, a few years
ago the South was a very profit
able rlistener of tho corn prodtic.
iog states, both in corn and pork.
The falling off of these shipments
within the past few years has at
tracted attention and there has j
been a compilation of figures, for
your Western man is not going to |
lot* trade without knowing the j
reason why. The figures show a
gain in the production of corn in
the Southern Slates, belwcea 1815 i
and 1884, of 108,124,080 bushels, j
and of oats 29,300,500 bushels. In wH
bogs there was an increase of 6,-
500,000. Such an increase in food ,
products shows that the South is j’
well able to take care of ilself, and
with a little more diversifying of >
crops can he independent of the
world. These figures will also have
the effect of diverting, in a mess
ure, emigration Irom the West to
the South, for one tear that North
ern farmers have bad in regard to
the South was that thev could not
engage in grain and stock raising,
occupations with which they are
wall acquainted. So it will be teen
