Affierioua is llu county neat ol Homier
county, Georgia, ailualed on the Sooth*
western railroad, 71 miles southwest of
Uacoo, and about 80 miles north of the
Florida lino It ia situated in the finest
section of Georgia, raising a greater vari
ety of agricultural and horticultnral pro
ducts than any other part ol the Houth,
combining all the fruits, grain and vege
tables of the temperate and semi-tropical
oonea—wheat, corn, rye, oata, rioe, Irish
znd sweet potatoes, peanuts, ebufas,
nothin peas, sugar cane, apples, pears,
peaches, grapes, plums ana other fruits.
The climate is mild and equable, and one
of the moat healthy in the'world. the air
being pure and dry and mostbenefioial lor
long and throat diseases. All kinds ol
outdoor work oan be performed without
inconvenience from summer heat or
winter oold. Americas has a population
of 6,000, is beautifully situated on high
and rolling ground and boasts of some of
the handsomest business blocks in the
Honth. The city has fine publio schools;
good churches; a large publio library;
ere daily, one semi-weekly and two
w itkly newspapers; a new opera nouse,
completely furnished witu soenery and
eapable of seating 1,000 persons; a well
organized hre department, including
two fine steamers; the streets are well
paved, Bewered and lighted; there are
two flouring mills, a cotton seed oil mill,
planing mill and variety works, carriage
factory, and anumber of minor manfacto-
ries; about two hundred firms are engaged
in mercantile business; three banks with
an abundance of capital; two good
hotels tnrnish good acoommodattion.
Americus is the centre of trade for six
counties comprising the richest agricul
tural section in Georgia, the average an
nual cotton receipts being 30,000 bales,
whiob will bo largely increased by the
completion of the Preston and Lumpkin
railroad now in process of construction.
It is the largest city in Southwest Geor
gia, and has been appropriately named
the "Commercial Capital" of that sec
tion, and it is rapidly growing in popu
lation end wealth. Ab a place of busi
ness residence it presents attractions
equaled by few oiiies in the South.
Property of all kinds is comparatively
cheap, although rapidly advancing in
value; the inhabitants of both oity and
country are cultivated, courteous aud
hospitable, with a cordial welcome to im
migrants. To enterprising tradesmen, ju
dicious capitalists and industrious farm
ers this section of Georgia offers fine op
portunities. Any information in regard
to city or country will be cheerfully fur
