Regarding the coming of tbe
celebrated Stonewalls, the Griffin
News of Friday morning says:
Last night the members of Stone
wall Fire Company No. 2 held a
meeting to act upon the invitations
received from llawkinsville and
Americus, to attend firemanic tour
naments in those places. After
stating the object of tbe meeting,
Frank Flynt moved that the invi-
tation to Americus be accepted
This motion at ones received a sec
ond from T. D. Rockwell, who
made an enthusiastic speech to the
members, appealing to them not to
let this opportunity slip by to add
fresh laurels to the wreath already
worn by tbe gallant Stonewails.
This was followed by a talk equally
as enthusiastic, from Frank Flynt,
and when the question waB put it
was carried unanimously.
A committee of threo, consisting
of Flvnt, Rockwell and Drake, was
appointed to solicit subscriptions
frem the citizens to defray the ex
penses ol the running squad. So
enthusiastic was the meeting that a
nice amount for expenses was raised
before leaving the hall.
Thi' invitation to llawkinsville
was declined with the thanks of the
company.
Stonewall will go to Americus
ard will bring back $300 of tbe
Americus cash. The boys are
worked up over the matter and will
oarry the best running squad that
ever left Griffin, and we give the
other contestants warning that
every inch gained by them will be
hotly contested by the gallant boys
of Stonewall No. 2.
The above company will un
doubtedly make things warm for
their competitors, but they wifi not
have a walk over.

years old. He attended Oxford
college and graduated there. He
afterwards moved to Schley coun
ty, where he taught school for a
time. About 185(1 he married Miss
A. M. Stewart, of this county. He
studied and practiced law, and was
elected to several positions of honor
by the people of that oounty. Near
ly eight years ago lie was elected
to represent this district in the
Senate of Georgia, and did so with
honor to himself and bis constitu

Uncle Newt was one of the kind
est of kind heated men, generous
to a fault, and unlimited in his
hospitality, and his friends are
only limited by his acquaintance.
He leaves a devoted wife and six
children to mourn his loss. His
illness has been protracted and
painful, but be bdre it bravely and
patiently. One of the saddest
scenes ever witnessed was enacted
at his bedside Monday of last week
He bad suddenly roused up from a
long stupor, and called his wife
and children to bis bedside. With
words of love and tenderness he
hade them good bye, blessiiig ami
giving bis dying benediction to
each one. He tooK bis little baby
in bis arms, and with tears in bis
eyes and a faltering voice kissed it
and returned it to its mother’s
arms, giving her clear and explicit
directions ns to the way he would
like it raised: told them bow he
would wish to be buried, and tbe
disposition of bis property. After
it was all over, ho qifictly turned
over and sank into unconciousness,
from which he only awakened fora
few minutes the next morning. In
this way be passed the last few
'lays of his life.
He will be buried Ibis morning
at 10 o’clock in Ellaville.
May he forever rest in peace.
