The immense quantity of peanuts
grown in Atrica, South America
and in our own Southern States
afford not only an article of food,
but a very large source of oil pro
duction. The seed contains trom
46 to 60 rer cent, ot a nearly color
less, bland, fixed oil, not unlike
olive oil, and used for similar pur
poses. It is s rare drying oil,
which changes but little by ex
posure to the air, and remains fluid
even several degrees colder than
S3 degrees fabrenbeit. A great
quantity of soap is manufactured
from this oil, some of the finest
toilet soaps imported from France
bsiaff of Uus material.
Reduced I'ricea si llir Opera
House.
Owing to the dramatic season
being nearly over, arrangements
have been made by which the Ken
dall Comedy Co., accompanied by
a fine Military Hand and Orches
tra, will give tbreo performances at
the Opera House on April 1,2 and
3 at the very low prices of admis
sion of 25, 35 and 50 cents., thus
giving every one an opportunity to
witness a first class performance
for hall the usual price. This should
ensure them good houses. The en
gagement will open with the beau
tiful spectacular drama “Sea-of-
lec,” presented with a complete
cast, and the company’s special
scenery. Music will he furnished
each evening by their Metropolitan
Orchestra of seven members. An
entire change of programme will be
given each evening.
Will Prevent Pooling.
Even though the Savannah, Dub-
iin A Western road is completed
this year, it is of the greatest im
portance that Americus should se
cure the extension of the A. P. A
L. road to the river, as it will not
only give us competitive rates, but
will maintain them, for it will pre
vent the Central and 8. D. A W.
from pooling and thus keeping up
rates. Albany has three roads and
no competitive rates, because the
roads centering there have formed
a pool. A. I’. A L. being owned
and controlled by the people along
the line, it will not he to their in
terest to pool, and thus it will al
ways prevent a pool at Americus.

their arrangements and will at once

water tank and the brick and lum
ber arc being put on the ground.
Mt. Bell has just returned from
Chicago, where he made arrange
ments for the immediate shipping
of the machinery, which will make
five car-loads. Tho capacity of the
factory will be ten tons per day.
A Handsome Catalogue.
The Recorder office last week
turned out a handsome 24-page
music catalogue for Messrs. James
Fricker A Hro., of this city, and
Mr. James Fricker, of Danville,
Va. The catalogue contains line
engravings and descriptions of the
the principal pianos and organs
they handle, and will compare
favorably with the catalogues is
sued by tho principal music houses
in the country. In typographical
execution it will stand by the side
of any work done in the larger
cities, an we had to compete with
Chieage as to price.

Quite a Difference.
In our Sunday’s paper it was
stated that the Boston Star Con
cert Company had played in Rich
mond to an audience of one hun
dred and fifty people. It should
have read fifteen hundred people.
Quite a difference. The company
is one of the very best on the -oad.

with the tear drama. A broken
heart of the mother will not satisfy
or turn away the ends of justice.
Wc have heard swearing, vulgarity
and obscene language from young
hoys that wc supposed would
have been found at home in
the family circle or in their room
studying their books.
We have seen young boys hardly
old enough to go alone around on
the streets, among trash and scum,
hearing all kinds of black guard,
oaths and obscenity, when they
should be at home or at school.
Wc see almost daily young boys
smoking cigaretts and chewing
tobacco aad we doubt whether
their parents know anything about
it.
The most disgusting, degrading,
repulsive sight, is to see these
young things smoking vile cigaret
tes (and they arc all vile aad ruin
ous) or chewing tobacco. We have
seen these young boys on the
streets at night when they should
have been at home. We simply
give these lew pointers to the pa
rents and teachers of the young in
Americus to put them on a more
vigilant watch, and this much we
claim as our duty. We refrain from
giving names in this instance, but
we make no promises as to the
future and shall be on the lookout
and shall not hesitate to publish
them.
Fisliint; With Frogs.
Jim Wilkins and Bugg Chapman
had an unusual experience while
fishing on the river a short time
ago. The gentleman they were
stopping with told them that frog
bait was the best they could use,
and with that they could catch any
quantity of fish. The next day they
caught a numbe of them, and that
night put them oil their set lines.
Karly the next morning they were
down at the river anxious to pull
in their fish. Getting in their boat,
Chapman rowed Jim out. Jim got
hold of the line and thought he felt
a powerful jerk.
Wc’vc got 'em, Bugg,” be ex
claimed, and began pulling in.
Imagine his construction when
lie tound not a fish nor a frog on
the line.
“There they are,” said Bugg,
pointing to a limb on a tree, over
tho bank, am* sure enough there
were the frogs, sitting on the limb,
watching the crestfallen fishermen.
Bugg had to swear eternal se
crecy before Jim would let him
out of the boat.

BILE BEANS! What a funny
name for a medicine! Neverthe
less it is very significant as ap
plied to the article. Bile, accord
ing to Webster, is “a yellowish
bitter, viscid, nauseous fluid, se
creted by the liver.” Whenever
tho hyer docs not act properly this
fluid is retained in the blood and
poisons the whole system, and
sallowness and misery is the re
sult. SMITH'S BILE BEANS is
