Yes, and it just fits the Recorder,
Americus and Southwest Georgia.

The Americus people are talking
about extending the A. P. A L.
road to the Chattahoochee river.
Seems they have lost their grip on
Linderman’s road. Macon people
have no confidence in the project.
—Montezuma Record.
No, we have not lost our grip,
but are simply attaching two
strings to our bow.
The citizens of the Hannahatchee
District seems to be in earnest in
regard to securing an extension of
of the A. P. A L. railroad. An
active canvass of the District is
being made. A few days more will
decide whether they can raise the
$$6,000 required. Lumpkin should
subscribe as much to the Hanna-
hatchee extension as the citizens of
that District subscribed to get the |
road to Lumpkin—Independent.

Nashville system. Americus will
then it is certain have one if not
two new competing lines inside a
year—probably Loth, in time for
the next crop. So soon as these
lines begin operation Americus
becomes at once a competitive
point and is entitled by the Rail
road Commission to rates, even it
competition between tbe rival lines
and not of itself bring them about.
To tbe reduction in rates by com
petition, which none ol our rival
markets would have, sav 10 to 20
cents per hundred (nr 50c. to $1
per bale) there would lie added by
the establishment ol the compress
an additional 30 to 50 cents per
bale, amounting to a total advan
tage over the surrounding markets j the past we
ot 3-lli to j} cents per pound. But i
outside of the advantages assured |
by the completion of the competing
roads, there is already sullicicntly I
strong reasons in existence to
authorize the immediate erection of J
the press. It will add £ cent to |
the market price ot cotton in
Americus if no competing line is
built, because shippers will get a
return from the vessels when the
cotton pressed here teaches the
ports which will enhance the value
ol the cotton by just that sum, re
gardless of the attitude of any
railroad line towatds the compress
and Its business. This is a matter
between tbe buyer in this market
anil the ship that takes his cotton
at the port with which the inter
vening railroad line has nothing to
do. Of course if the railroad will
alto pay an allowance for com
pressed cotton, say 50 cents per
hale as is customary, it only adds
that much more to the market
value.
We are therefore pleased to know
that active steps will be taken the
coming week to get the stock sub
scribed to start tbe work at once,
so as to be ready for work when
the first bate rolls in. A press of
a capacity of 800 bales a day can,
