ern A Florida rood. It Is (to miles
South uf Macon, 34 miles from
Montesumu, .'17 miles from Albany,
3S miles from Hawklnsvillo, .V>
miles from Abbeville. It will tliux
be seen tlust it is the natural trade
center of a large and rich section.
Thin, in connection witli the fact
that it has two lines of railroad,
thus giving it competitive rates of
freight, must insure for it a rapid
and permanent growth.
Its railroad facilities are equaled
by but few towns In the State. The
A. I’. A L. road furnishes it an out
let. by rail aud water, to Huvannab
and Brunswick, the two most Im
portant ports on tlie Atlantic coast,
and to Americus, Columbus nnd
Kufaula in the west. The Georgia
Southern A Florida furnishes a
direct and short route toMaeou and
all pointx in the Northwest, aud to
all Florida points in the South. By
this it will he xeeu that Cordele
must be a good market for all pro
ducts ax well ax xuppllex.
The town is situated on high roll
ing land, heavily timbered with
long leaf yellow pine, liusun abun
dant supply of pure free-stone
water, and is noted for its healthy „
fulness. The country around
abounds in wild game, such ax deer,
birds, wild turkeys and squirrels.
Tile tract of land upon which
Cordele is laid out is owned jointly
by the Macon Construction Com
pany and the Americus Investment
Company, both companies having
ample capital, which they are em
ploying in developing and beauti
fying the town. With its favorable
location nnd Its backing by men of
enterprise and capital, who are in
terested in its success, its future
prospects are of the brightest, and
those who Invest in property there
at the present low prices cannot
fail tj realize a handsome protit in
a short time.
The town is laid olf in blocks
400x320 feet, the lots being oOxllM
aud oOxloO feet. The streets are SO
feet iu w idth, well graded, and lined
with two rows of live-oak trees,
whieli are growing handsomely.
The lots are being sold at low prices
and on easy terms.
As an evidence of the growth of
this wonderful little city of the
pines, we note the fact that last
Wednesday Mr. H. C. Bagley,
President of the Americus Invest
ment Company, made private sales
of over $2,000 worth of lots, and
this, too, without any advertise
ment whatever aud only a few days
verbal notice. The land thus sold
realized 11,000 per acre—a very
good price for land which only a
few months ago was deemed high

Comptroller General Wright nnd
Col. Fellows were in prison togeth
er at Johnson’s Island, ami the
Comptroller is thoroughly delighted
witli the big majority given his
former yoke-fallow in New York.
Fellows was a captain of un Arkan
sas company, aud when he got to
Johnson’s Island was soon the light
of the prison. Tlie Comptroller
speaks of him at that time as a
brilliant man and u gallant soldier.
In the dehutes with which tlie pris

relieve tlie monotony of their con

and champion. Frequently, when
he had the floor for a speech, the
Federal guards would come in and
hear him through. The Comptrol
