FRIDAY,:: : : DECEMBER 23. 1887.
The AMHIOVa Recorder la published
Dally and Weeklv, during the year.
The Daily Rk« ukiikr Is Untied every
morning except Mondays, during the year,
at 50c per month, or 10.00per year.
The Wrrki.t Recorder I* laaued every
Thuradav morning, at $1.00 per year, paya
ble in advance. It han the largeat circula
tion of any paper In Southwest Georgia,
circulating largely In the counties of Huin-
ter, Lee, Terrell, Htewart, Webster, Schley,
Marion. Macon, Dooly and Wilcox.
Entered at Americus Post-Ofllce an sec
ond clow* matter.
All communications should be addressed
to H. C. STOREY, Publisher.
In another column will be found
the announcement of a virtual con
solidation of the Central and S. F.
AW. railroad*, ho far a* traffic ar
rangements are concerned. This
arrangement will have the effect of
placing Americus on a great trunk
line from the - Northwest to the
Bouth, by the extension of the B.
V. A E. road to Columbus. The
greater portion of the travel from
the Northwestern States to Florida
will pass over this line, and by n
little aetion on our part Americus
can secure the advantage of tourist
rates and attract many visitors to
our beautiful city. This arrange
ment between these two large rail
road corporations virtually places
them in control of the traffic of
South Georgia ami Florida. Tills
fact renders the completion of th
A. P. A L. road to Savannah i
greater necessity, and our people
should do all in their power to se
cure that end. With that road
completed to Savannah, we should
be in a |s>sition to control freight
rates and make Americus the lead
ing railroad |w>int in South Georgia.
I We have received the f!r«t num- j
i her of the “Macon Sunday Times,” j
edited by Albert Lamar and Harry !
Edwards. It is a handsomely print- 1
ed eight-page sheet, full or interest
ing matter. As the preparation for
this number was hurried, the edi
torial page does do its editors jus
tice. As was to he expected, the
Times is in favor «»f u protective
tarifl and opposed to President
Cleveland, for which we are thank
ful, tor it began to look as though
there uould be no paper published
in Georgia holding these views,and
a little op|H>sition is a good thing.
We hope the Times will be pros
perous, for there are no two men)
we like better to read after than
Lamar and Kdwards, even if we do !
not always agree w ith their views, j
