OUR CHRISTMAS.
How the Lord’* Day Wu Observed Is
Amerteus.
('uristiiuts wish observed in a
highly proper manner in our beauti
ful little city.
When we nay ('hr 1st mas, we mean
l>oth Sunday and Monday, for both
Heeined the name to us. The usual
Sunday ami Christmas services
were held at the churches, aud were
well attended. Nothing of impor
tance happened to mar the event.
Monday seemed a repetition of
Sunday, though a few young peo
ple got together in a spring wagon
and made the city ring with their
merriment for a few hours. Very
few stores were o|h*d, and the Htaid
business men stood on the corners
and talked politics, and the pros
perity of our country, or remained
at home and enjoyed their own so
ciety, or the occasional dropping in
of a few friends.
During Monday morning the
“Fantastics” made their annual
display, and the best compliment
we can pay them, probably, is to
say that they were as ugly and made
t>8 much noise ami created as much
laughter aud fun as they ever did,
and we think that is saying a good
.So far as we have heard, no acci
dents occurred to mar the day.
Several small hot air toys were
seni up, which created consideiable
discussion and amusement, ami
during the evening a few fireworks
were sent up, but as the city ordi
nance restricvep the fire works, but
few ventured to jolify in that ro-
spect.
On the whole, it was a quiet, hap-
py day.

I, On yesterday morning, ut the
residence of the bride’s uncle, Col.
S. K. Taylor, of this city, Mr. C. B.
Miller, formerly of Mobile, Ala.,
now living In the city of Brooklyn,
was united in marriage to Miss
Alice G. Porter, one of the most
popular and charming young ladies
of Americus. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. A. B.Campbell,
of the Baptist church, who in well
chosen and impressive language,
tied tlio happy knot which blended
tlielr two lives into one. There
were no attendants, and besides tile
relatives and connections of the
family only a few invited guests
were present.
After congratulations and best
wishes had been showered upon the
happy couple, an elegant aud boun
tiful collation was served, the
genial host and hostess, Col. and
Mrsr Taylor, doing the honors of
tlie occasion with their character
istic grace and dignity.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller left on the
down train for Mobile, Ala., where
they will spend the holidays, and
will go thence to Brooklyn, their
future home. We, in common witli
the many friends of the bride in
tills city, wish for them m long life
of happiness and prosperity.

Home of the Imys ean now fully
appreciate the following pathetic
description of tile seductive Christ
mas eggnog from the Smithvllle
News:
The Christmas eggnog Is on hand
once a year, and gets in Its work on
the hoys Christmas day. It Is com-
posed of whisky and eggs, with
three parts whisky and one part egg,
and as the Inducer of a regular high
old time with things in general is
without a rival outside of Tom-and-
Jerry. After a couple of glasses
you are persuaded that you are hav
ing a better time tills year than you
had last, and you generously give
the little brother a quarter to buy
firecrackers with wlieu lie comes
sneaking around the parlor.
After the third glass you are con
vinced that you are not such a hail
fellow, after all, und that you guess
you know when you’re having n
good time.
After the fifth glass you deliber
ately see twice in the same place,
wonder how it is that Joues is com
ing down the street witli two heads
on him and four hands dangling at
ills stile, complain that the fire 1s
too hot, the room onesided, and
then crawl under the bed and go to
sleep wondering where you left that
bottle which is to brace you up in
the morning.
