He is Charged With the Murder of An
other Negro in Stewart County About
Ten Years Ago.

That Is the condition of Joe White
this morning.
And the death of another negro
which occurred on Brown's planta
tion In Stewart county about ten
years ago is charged against him.
During the time which haa Inter
vened since the murder was com*
mltted, White haa wafcderad .about
under the alias of Wilson, and has
evaded many attempts of the ofll-
oers to arrest him. j
About a year ago lie was spotted
in this city by the police, but suc
ceeded in making his escape. .
Yesterday morning It was learned
by the officers that he was in the
city, aud lu a very short time the
police had him looated.
Last night they went out to a
small house near the north termi
nus of Jackson street aud found
White in bed.
He was arrested and brought to
the station house at midnight, bnt
not feeling that it would be perfect
ly safe to risk him in one of the cells
tne officers carried him to jail, nnd
there deposited him for safo keep-
log.
He had been nt work at tho new

Tbs Boss Snake.
Yesterday evening Capt. Cobb
brought in the boss rattlesnake,
in tire one that wan killed on Mr.
Jas. Murray’s place in the 2itb dis
trict, mention of which was made
in the Recorder, about six weeks
ago. Tire snake it seven nnd a halt
feet in length, and 1ms tbirty-one
rattles and a button, all of which
now remain attached to the skin.
The Captain placed it in the Library
for the Inspection of tho public.-|qrram iu to-morrow’s paper.
Mr Murray promised the snake to
tho Recohdek, and if we don’t get
tbit one lie wilt have to kill another
one for us.
