Atlanta, October 27.—A mill tary scandal, which has bson smonl dering here for several day#, comes out officially to-night. Four member* of ths Gate City Guards, the company that won the Orst money In the Interstate drill here Friday, are to be aonrflmar tialled on the charge of conduct un becoming officers and gentlemen They have already, by order of Adjutant-General Kell, been sus pended from duty* The four men Capt. A. C. Sneed; Orst lie# tenant Charles M. Roberts, aud Privates B. H. Miles aod J. H Spillman. The facta briefly told are these: One- of the judges, Lieut McDon ald, stationed at Auburn, Alabama, reported to Lieut. Colonel Calhoun of Sneed'a battalllOB, that Captain Sneed and these other three men had attempted to bribe the men printing the official programme to furnish them a copy of it. The printing was dose at Auburn, and conclusive evidence that * all four were concered In the attempt was furbished. Adjutant General Kell promptly Instructed. Colonel Calhoun to suspend tbt-fhsr men from doty. Tlile order pas sus pended until after the drill, In order to give the company a fair chance. * It appears the men fslled to ob tain a copy of the programme. At any rate the programme was changed entirely by the jndges, to be oerkffn the Gourds went Into.the drill with no undue advantage The victory was won fairly by- the Guards. After ths drill* was. ovor the order, suspending the men from duty, was carried out. Official oharges and, specifications were preferred to-night, ordering the court martial. A strong effort is being made to bush up the affair, but Col. Cal houn states positively to-night that thlsoaunot he done. Tbeaffklrfs the more Important because the Guards won the first prise, the judges all agree, through the excel ienco of Bneed aa^aptalo None but these four m*n are be lieved to have been concerned in the affair. Sneod was at one time captain of the Atlanta Rifles, and most of tbs betting done bere was that the Rifles would beat the Guards, or vice versa, Sneed, more over Is now an applicant for ap pointment as adjutant-general.
