The Macon Telegraph of Mouday con tain* the following editorial: * “TheUrtnof Judge Erwin as a member of the Georgia Uailroad Commission will soon expire. Judge Erwin ha* made an accepta ble commissioner, but the people of Middle and Southern Georgia have a right to expect that his suc cessor will come from one ot these Motions. “When the laat vacancy on the railroad commission was filled, the 'Telegraph took occasion to com ment cn the Injustice of the pres ent grouping of these commission- * era ip the northeastern corner of the elate. Judge Erwin lives at Athens; Mr. Robertson at Clarkes- ville, and Mr. Trammell at Mari etta. They are all within a few milea of each other, while Che great regions of middle and southern Georgia are not represented on the railroad commission, We trust that when Governor Northen comes to make the next appointment for thle Important body he will find some worthy man south of Atiauta - to fill It. Mr. Trammell, the com missioner who lives nearest the center of the state, is twenty miles north <# Atlanta, while that part of Georgia aouth of Atlanta has much mora than half the railroad mileage in the State, has furnished by far • the largest part ot ths railroad de velopment in Georgia during the past ten years, and has railroad tonnsga far m excess of that on Uanta. There are great southern Geori 1st in other though their portance to wealth. It* should be a In that paM talnsTit the supply m Bvl central and a which do not ex- of the stale, •parity Is of Im- I whole common- ortsnt that there commissioner » state which con- lumber interests, nayal* stores, the great and growing melon, truok and fruit crops. .This same region also produces the bulk of Georgia’s ootton crop. MTne value of these great Indus tries mill crops to tbo people Inter eeteO in them, and to the Htate at , depends In a great measure 2 ‘eatmsnt at TraUrbadiT There should be at least one man oira railroad commission who is fanv iar with the railroad situation in Central and Southern Georgia, is very rare that a railroad commis sioner la seen aouth of Atlanta. There ought to be one located below the mountains ot North Georgia. Under the law ths commlsaloner appointed to succeed Judge Erwin must he a lawyer, and it 1» under stood that Judge Allen Fort, of Americas, will be an applloant for tllO position. Judge Fort is In every w*y 1 qualified for the responsible position. Hs is a lawyer of ability and has served with distinction on the bench, t He Is also a mau of af- Are and la thoroughly posted con- the* Industrial and agri cultural development of ths State. \ye have no doubt that he would fill the office of railroad cominis- ! sloner admlrbly. But the point f. the Telegraph wishes to emphasise and Insist upon is that the new commissioner shall come from middle and southern Georgia, h They may be other applicants from Efjlffo ports of the State as well quail- , fifed and as worthy as Judge Fort. oosfldvnce that Governor North- n will make no mistake as to character of his appoints for this important cfiles. We also belieys that he will appreciate the force of the claims of central and southern Georgia for direct reprseentatlon upon * commission which is of ■ueh viflhlmportance to the pecu liar Interne of these sections of the b'Ute." \ Tl^* argument of the Telegraph is very sound ^mnd logical, but The Recorder wWtd briefly call the aitentlorf of tbeT||legraph to a few points, In the building of Southwest Georgia lead* tkm of the^ 6Utv. Amerii city of Georgia, the law which created the Railroad Commltalon, Judge Fort, as Sum ter’s representative, framed the bill, and secured its passage, or was largely instrumental in doing so. Southwest Georgia has but one representative among all the Htate ofilcere, and that one but lately. Aside from these argu ments, there is not « man in the State, better qualified, if as well, tor such a position, than Judge Fort. And Americus and South west Georgia will Insist upon hav ing a representative on the com mission. It Is a Mlstsko To try to cure catarrh by using local applications. Catarrh is not a local but a constitutional disease. It is not a disease of the man’s nose, but of the man. Therefore to effect a cure, requires a constitutional rem edy like Hood’s Sarsaparilla, which actiug through the blood, reaches every part of the system, expelling the taint which causes the disease, and imparting health.
