Mrs. Ella Dietz Clymer, president of
Sorosis, wore a rich toilet of Cbandron
velvet trimmed with novelty tilk in
cream, bine and golJ, with band? of
beaver fnr all around the neck and pan
els. It was made with a train. Mrs.
Ciymer is very tall nnd graceful, as well
as handsome, ‘nnd she has as gracions
and sweet n manner as if sho had never
written a single poem.
Mrs. Anna Randall Diehl wore a gown
of gros grain dark green silk, with a
train. The front was of Cheney silk, in
large indistinct figures of subdued col
ors.
Mrs. Leo C. liarby’s lovely daughter
was there, and wore a white ottoman
silk trimmed with lace and moire rib
bons. The waist was of silk, with onoside
draped with the laco. Tho skirt, which
had a dorai-train, had two side panels,
each mode of full cascades of soft laco.
There was another lady, whoso name
I did not learn, who wore a golden
brown surah dress striped with dark
brown velvet, and with sleeves, corsage
and back breadths of brown velvet to
match tho stripes. Tho drapery across
tho bast was arranged in a novel and
effective manner.
Mrs. Emma Moffett Tyng wore 91 fawn
colored ladies’ cloth and brown ottoman
silk costume, walking length. Her
round, dimpled faco is very pretty and
looked doubly so in this dress. The
dress was made with a basque of the
cloth trimmed with tho ottoman silk, and
the skirt had simple wrinkled drapery
slashed in two places and opening over a
very deep fiounco of ottoman silk.
Mrs. Edmand Rnssell woro a coral
colored surali silk, with loose drapery
hanging from tho neck to the bottom,
both front and back, hel 1 in place in
front by cords made of coral bdtds and
with hnndsome coral balls at the ends
GREEN FAILLE AND BROWN SURAH DRESS.
The neck was half high and bordered
all oronnd with very scratchy looking
branched coral, and three enormous but
tons covered with coral beads held the
front draperies at the bast. The sleeves
were long, reaching quite to the middle
of the hand.
Her hair was dressed in a low knot at
the back, and In front in a forest of
black carls from under which her eyes
flashed darkly. The dress was certainly
artistic and corsetless, but to my taste
savored too mnch of a wrapper for even
ing. Still she ought to know. Mrs.
Rnssell said poutingly to pretty little
Mrs. Robert Barton, who, in dark blue
velvet gown made plainly bnt very
tastefully, sat quietly by: “Do you know
I went to bed sick yesterday after read
ing one of the newspaper!. They said I
am not pretty. What would you have
done in my place?”
“I should send the editor my photo-
