The Asheville Immigration Con
vention is well attended, nearly
five hundred delegates being there,
We hope some plan will bo adopted
to give us a good working immigra
tion bureau for the South.
The newspapers have about sot
tied it that it is a want of confl
dence and not a iaok of cash that
has caused all this flurry. But
who is to blame, the banks whioh
have the cash, or the people who
have the confldence?
Elder McGehoe, presiding elder
of the Amerlcus district, reported
In the Methodist conference the
other day that three new ohurches
had been built and paid for, and
there was less than $250 due on pas
tor’s salaries for tbe past year,
This is what the Bishop called a
"wonderful report."
Some Northern capitalists are
trying to lay the blame of the
money market flurry on the plant
ers, saying they are withholding
millions of bales of cotton from the
market. Bless your soul, they are
holding It because they can’t do
anything else with It.
It is rumored that Geu. Aiexan
der will retire from the presidency
of the Central system. Tins Re
corder hopes this is not so, a
Gen. Alexander has given the Cen
tral splendid servioe, and built up
the road more in the past two
years than had been done before In
ten. He has utterly ohanged its
policy, and it no longer fights and
quarrels with everybody and Mr
erything.
NEWSPAPER PARAGRAPHS.
The coming year will bring many
changes to the boys of the press.
As Ton Recorder has before men
tioned, Branham, of the Brunswick
Times, goes $6 the Rome Tribune,
and Richardson, of tbe Telegraph,
goes to the Atlanta Journal. Who
will succeed them on'ihese papers
Is not yet known.
The Recorder has often won
dered that the Macon Telegraph
did not cover lte field better. Ma
son Is tbe most centrally located
city In the State, yet ;so near At
lanta that the Capital news oan be
easily covered. With a live, ener-
getlo man at the helm, the Tele
graph should have a circulation of
not less than 25,000. If a first-class
system of news gathering was In
augurated, the Telegraph would be
invaluable to every family In Mid
dle, South, and Southwest Georgia.
This Is not written lu a spirit of
criticism, but only In wonder that
suoh a splendid field, whioh can be
filled by no other paper, should be
overlooked. The Recorder
knows of a paper In a Western
State, situated similarly, with
heavy competition, that makes a
fortune for its owners every year.
The country weeklies came to us
this week with the usual announce
ment ot»'■holiday for .Christmas
week. Happy editors! Shed a
tear for your hard worked brethren
of tbe dally press, who cannot let
loose even long enough to spit on
their hands, In order to take a bet
ter bold.
Stanton is baek at his post on the
Constitution, after a-weeks Illness.
How Clarke, of the Smlthvllte
News, Knowles, of the Greensboro
Herald, and about a dozen of bis
North Georgia pets must miss hts
tally when he Is off.
Editor Tamer, of tbe Albany
News, Is doing great work for his
' town, and literally makes tbe “old
fogies" there hnnt for oooler quar
ters. The Albany people sustain
his paper liberally, too. This is no
taffy—it Is a fact.
Who wonld have supposed, two
years ago, that Cordele aad Rich
land could support such bright pa
pers as Burton and Tison are get
ting up? Why, it seems bnt a few
months ago that both places were
old farms, and more likely to go to
weeds Ilian brick blocks. t
Though Sumter is a great AUI-
rnee county, It has sot yet been
i All lanes paper.
WILL BUILD TWO.
Bays yesterday’s Albany News:
We find In yesterday’* issue of
The Americub Recorder the fol
lowing paregrspb giving tbe result
of the aforesaid contemplated no
tion:
"At the meeting yesterday noth
ing defiulle was done, but it may
be stated as almost certain that the
Amerlcus people will continue
have a street ear service.”
Aud in another part of the same
paper under tbe head of “Sidewalk
Talk’’ we find (he following:
"Young business men sboulQ not
allow tbe street railroad to atop—
not for a moment," said a visitor
yesterday. "Even if it don’t pay
expenses, it is a big advertisement
to you, and before many years it
will be the best paying institution
in the city."
The visitor was right. Suoh en
terprises are not ouly an advertise
ment, but they are publio con
venieuces aud Albany is going
right along building two.street rail
roads. When we get them built
we are going to keep them running
too.
As our Albany neighbor has
doubtless found, through The Re
corder, by this time, tbe street
oars here have been discontinued
for thirty day*. Should the coal
famine come to an end soon, the
cars will doubtless bo put on be
fore that time. Never fear, Amer
icas will continue to bead the pro
cession.

The discontinuance of the train
from Macon arriving here at 8:45 p.
in., end of tbe one for Macon ar
riving here at 8:40 a. m., was made
last Wednesday, and tbe people al
ready feel their loss. These trains
were very convenient, and tbe peo
ple would like to see them put back

That “Tired reeling.”
The newspapers are having a good
deal of fun nowadays over that
tired feeling," so muob spoken of
In medical advertisements, in con
nection with the iil-bealth of fe
males. It may be a source of hil
arity to witty paragraphers, but
not so to suffering women, who, by
overwork, and a disregard ot tbe
laws of health, have lapsed Into a
condition bordering on Invalidism.
What most women need Is to be re
lieved of some of the slavish work
