THE AMERICUS DAILY TIMES-RECORDER: SATURDAY, MAI 30, 1891.
IN TIIE USUAL WAY.
Thousands of Negroes Will <io From
America* to Andersoiivllle To-day.
For many years past it has been the
custom for the negroes in this city and
section to go by thousands to Anderson-
ville on May 30th.
And to-day will be no exception to the
established rule. They will go in the
usual numbers, and the same program j
will be followed out.
'It must bo understood that very few j
of these visitors take any part whatever |
In the memorial exercises, hundreds of j
them going no nearer the national
cemetery than the railroad depot of the
town.
The Central Wilt f'ay.
Montgomery, Ala., May 29.—The
Georgia Central railroad has decided
not to contest the payment of the license
tax levied upon the railroads by the
state, and has notified the auditor that
its branches in Alabama will pay the
tax. This settles the matter so far as
the Central is concerned.
To llombsrd Valparaiso.
Xkw York, May 29—Dispatches from
Chili say that the insurgents, contrary
to promises, threaten to bombard Val
paraiso. It is believed foreign powers
will intervene.
Xkw York, May 29—Two Italians
were fatally burned by the explosion of
a gasoline lamp at a fruit stand on First
These excursions prove a bonanza for j avenue this morning. Their flesh peeled
the railroads, and thousands of bright j oil in strips,
dollars find their way in their colters
from the pockets of the sable visitors.
Comptroller Matthews says there is i o
treasury shortage. Hut will there not
| be one ? Wait.

Americus excursion trains are run, con-
neetiag here with the special trains over
the Central to Anderaonville. Upon
tills road last year trains left this city
almost hourly, conveying the black
throng to and from Andersonville, and
this will doubtless be done again to-day.
The afternoon express yesterday car
ried up thousands of pounds of ice,
bushels of lemons and big bags full of
parched peanuts, to say nothing of soda
water galore and other refreshments for
the black multitude to feast upon to
day. While the crowd is always large
good order is generally observed among
these excursionists, and the day is al
ways one Jong to ho remembered pleas

ASD YET ANOTHER.

Association In .tune.
Brunswick, tlio city of conventions,
has opened her gates already this season
to many distinguished visitors, but in
this as in all things else, the best is re
served for the last.
On June 12th the cotton men of the
state will meet there to discuss matters
pertaining to their particular business.
The ‘'bull” and the “bear” will lie down
together, and for a short while both will
ba at peace with their fellow man.
Of • course Americus will be repre
sented in this gathering, os she is in all
others of orthodox kind, and already the
hoys are looking forward to the trip
with no small degree of interest.
Capt. Hitt will lead tlio battalion, with
Col. Bob Oliver bringing up the rear.
The colonel is playing a protracted
engagement at Smith vllle at present, but
he will be on hand to go along with the
hoys. Of course Col. Oliver, In his usual
happy style, will do the speech-making
to" the Americus delegation.
Bruuswicks’ hospitality is proverbial,
hut she never fairly turns herself looso
until the cotton men come | along, when
the whole town Immediately surren
ders. No one understands this fact bet
ter than the cotton men themselves, and
for this reason the Americus buyers
look forward with no little interest to
the proposed trip.
