feline bad bitten several cats and dogs
before its death was accomplished.
At tho meeting of tho Light Infantry
last night several new members were
elected. Tbe company is in better con
dition now than at any time since its

creditable stand In his cadet company at
Cuthbert, will go to tbe encampment at
Chlckamauga as a guest of the Americus
Light Infantry.
Tbe Friendship Sunday School asso
ciation will hold its meeting in Ameri
cus June 26, 27 and 28, embracing tbe

Mr. J. H. Chambliss, who is boring
well at Mr. Smith’s Magnolia brick yard
in this city, unearthed some queer spec!
mens of wood yesterday. They were
brought up from a distance of fifty-seven
feet.
Regular services will be held at the

All kinds of vegetables are plentiful
in Americus jnst now, and tbe prices
asked for them bare been lowered con
siderably. Local gardeners are now
supplying almost every kind of vegeta
ble known.
A couplo of negro boot blacks bad
figbfnearfthe Southwestern depot yester
day afternoon. One of them was right
badly hurt about tbe head. Tbe other
did some running, to keep from being
arrested, that would have done eredit to
a race horse.
A much needed rain commenced fall
Ing shortly after 7 o’clock one lasted for
several hours lest night. If this rain
was general throughout the county
crops of all kinds will be greatly benefit-
tod. In some portions of Sumter rain la
very badly needed.
A travelling man exhibited a wild
boar's task at the Southwestern depot
yesterday afternoon, which measured
over eight Inches. It was an Immense
specimen. He said that the boar which
sported the tusk’was killed In the north
ern part of Alabama In a river swamp.
About a month ago a dog which was
supposed to be mad bit a bog, mule and

Needs Attention.
If Superintendent McKenzie or tome
one who bet tbe authority, does
look after the matter of water at
Southwestern depot it Is likely that
osse before the mayor will be the result
of the way things are going down there.
Agent Maxwell says that he cannot
anything In the premises. It seems
one who has Investigated the matter
that his hands are thoroughly tied
the “red tape” so common with railroad
managements.
Yesterday The Tiues-Recobdek bad
something to say about tbo lack of water
for drinking purposes at tbe South,
western depot A more important
phase of the matter bos presented itself.
It seems that the pumpman down
there, backed by the roadway depart
ment, has cut off all water from tbe
closets in tbe waiting rooms, making
impossible to flush the pipes. The
stenob which arises is terrible and ladles
who were there yesterday actually had
to stand on the platform to escape the
awful odor which pervaded the waitiog
room.
This is an important matter and should
be looked after either by tbe railroad
authorities or by those of tbe eity.
