The Mule Won
The Macon Brewing Co.’s 1 mule, at- j

hose reel, had a lively race down For- >
syth street yesterday afternoon. The j
mule “got there," and the firemen were |
left. The mule and wagon were stand- •
ing in front of Mayo’s beef market
when the llremen made a run. As they
passed the mule he joined in the race.
The firemen very soon gave up but the
mule kept on his way and bad not
slackened bis pace when he turned
down Cotton avenue. He arrived at the s
stable without doing any damage.

Hon. W. M. nawkes lias been ap- j
pointed master inenaneery of the South
western circuit by Judge Fort. Mr. 1
Hawkes succeeds the late Col. N. A.
Smith? no regular master having been
appointed since that gentleman’s death.

A prominent allfanceman informed a ’
reporter yesterday that he had reason to
believe that Governor Nortlien will be
in Americus on the occasion of the alli
ance rally, July 14. He said that owing
to the status of affairs he could not say
whether the governor would take any
part In the day’s exercises, but that he
thought he would lie here as an observer
