The Hon. Thomas E. Watson, who is
so pear sighted that he cannot see the
difference between the Republican and
the Democratic pa rty, will not go to
Ohio to speak for the Third party peo
ple.
Mr. Watson arrived in Atlanta Mon
day afternoon and spent the rest of the
day in dodging reporters and in convers
ing with his friends.
He was seen at the capitol by a Her
ald reporter, and asked about his pro
posed visit to Ohio.
“I don't want to say anything for pub

to Ohio.”
That was all Mr Watson had to say
on that subject.

This summer has been unexampled for
the breaking of records for rapid locomo-
tlog on land and sea. The Atlantic has
been crossed Horn east to west and from
west to east more swiftly than ever be
fore, and so has the Pacific from Yoko
hama to San Francisco. English states
men are still pondering the political pos
sibilities latent in a passage of twenty
days from Japan to London across the
American continent. The other day the
little steam yacht the Vamoose develop
ed a speed of thirty miles an hour, and
her rival wonder, the Norwood, will try
to do still better. On a recent Sunday

The newspaper wits are getting off as
many excruciating jokes about the name
of J. Sloat Fassett, the Republican can
didate for governor of New York, as
they did about £. Burd Grubb, whose
name beat him for governor of New Jer

deal in a name, when a man is a candi
date for office.
In this age of keen competition a man
must advertise wisely. He must give*
the satno attention to his advertising
that he docs to his stock and store. An

the minds of the reader, and it means a
great deal to the advertiser that that im
