We want every mother to know that
croup can be prevented. True croup
never appears without a warning. The
.first symptom is hoarseness; then tbe
ohild appears to have taken cold or
cold may have accompanied the hoarse

followed by the croup. Tbe time to set

THE ADAMANT.
The adamant, which la commonly
called corundum, it tbe bard stone

as diamond, and was supposed to be tbe
stone upon which the ten command

traversing it like sea weed. It derives
its name from the river Achates, In

The amethyst, called in Hebrew “Aoh-
Inman,” la a bluish transparent quartz,
exceeding bright and beautiful; It la ao
called by the Hebrew* because It wee
supposed to produce pleasant dream*.

Little is known about the beryl except
that It waa tbe hardest stone known to
the anolents for cutting purposes and Is
also known as the onyx and aqua-ma

TBE EMERALD.
The ancient emerald is doubtless tbe
same stone as that of to-day—tbe jacinth
or hyacinth. This mutt have been a atone
of prismatic qualities, as it is said to
have given forth white, grey, red, red
dish brown, yellow or pale green and
blue lights.
TBE JASPER.
This is the last stone mentioned in
tbe setting of the Ligh priest's breast-

THE ONYX.
Tbe onyx is often confounded with tbe
beryL In cutting across tbe layers one
find* it to be a white and blaek, sad
brown and blaek atone.
THE TOPAZ.
In Job 21; 10, we read of the topaz. It
