A Richmond special says that General
Fitzhugli Lee has telegraphed Mr. 0. E.
Wellford of the Wickham Monument
asaociatlon, his acceptance of the invi
tation to deliver the address on the oc
casion of the unveiling, on the 29th inst.,
of the statue erected in this city to the
memory of General W. C. Wickham.
The statue, which was modeled by Val
entine of Richmond, and cast in bronze
in Hew York, and will be pnt in place
as soon as the pedestal is finished. Gen
erals Lee and Wickham, while differing
in politics, were always strong personal
fnends.
A special from Monmonth, Ills., says
that five persons were killed and fifty
or sixty injured in a railroad wreck at
1 o’clock, a. in., on the Burlington road.
The Omaha and Denver fust express ran
into an open switch, and the entire
train was thrown from the truck. A
relief train lias been sent to the scene
of the disaster, aud every effort will be
made to alleviate the sufferings os the
injured.

Alphahetta, Ga., Oct. 31.—Mr. Joe
Webb hired a new hand, Sir. Matthew
Hudson, to work at his gin. Mr. Hud
son worked nntil noon and went to
dinner. Ho did not return to his work
after dinner, and in the afternoon Mr.
Webb discovered that liis pocketliook.
continuing 930,. was gone out of his coat
pocket. His coat lmd been hanging in
the ginhouse all the foreuuon. Mr.
Webh felt certain that Hudson took the
money, and came to town in the after
noon, swore out a warrant for Hudson,
charging him with the theft. Mr. Hud
son was arrested and brought to town
aud nut in jail. Mr. Webb accompa
nied the constable and the prisoner to
town. On his return home Mr. W. H.
Brooks informed him that he found his
pocketliook in the road early in the
morning, and returned it to him. Mr.
Webb was surprised, and immediately
went to work to nndo the mischief he
had done, and came back to town in the
night, explained the matter and hail
Hudson released. We learn that Mr.
Hudson will sue Webb for daninges.

Springfield, Ills., says : The resolution
of the committee of the state assembly
of the Fnrmere' Mutual Benefit Associ
ation brought in a report favoriug the
election of a president, vice president
and United States senators bv the peo
ple; graded income tax. ami uniform
text books to lie furnished by the comity
■uperintendents; free ami unlimited
coinage of silver. The latter clause was
warmly discussed and filially adopted,
the original resolution being consider
ably changed. The consideration of
other resolntions was not conclnded
when the adjournment was taken.

Au ordtnauceto repeal Section 402 of the
code of ordinances of the city of Americus.
and In lieu thereof le tlx the time when all

Hkction 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor
and City Council of Americus, and It la
hereby ordained and enacted by the author*
if the same. That Hectlon 9U2 or the code
dlnances of the city of Americus, which
prescribes that It shall be the duty of the
Mayor and City Connell of Americus, to fix
by resolution the time when city taxes shall
beoome due, and for notice thereof by the
cleik and treasurer be, and the same Is
hereby repealed, and In lieu thereof the fol
lowing section la enacted, to-wlt;
8kc.2. Be It further ordalntd by the au
thority aforesaid, that from and after the
passage ofthla ordinance, ell City taxeashall
become due and pat able by the tint day of
October of each year, and any taxpayer who
shall neglect or refuse to pay such taxes bv
the noth day of I ec-rnber of each year, shall
be entered upon the list of defaul era. and
the Clerk aud Treasurer shall forthwith, a*
early as practicable. (**iie execution against
such taxpayer for nls unpaid taxes, which
execution shall bear tent in the nameof the
Mayor and City Council of Americus and be
directed to the Mar*hMl, w ho khall. by levy
aud sale, forthwith collect tho name as pro
vided by law.
Hkc Be It further ordained, that all
ordinances! and parts of ordinance in con
flict with fill-ordinance*,i*eand the someare
hereby repealed.
